Well, OK. I guess I'll agree to disagree. But one thing, what do you mean by "this type of person"? The wife of someone famous? --candlewicke 19:12, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Has it been verified? I notice the "famous for being famous", paparazzi bit is uncited in the article and just wanted to be sure. --candlewicke 19:26, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I too am old enough to remember that year but I prefer doing things the proper way. Oh well. ;) --candlewicke 19:38, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Talk archives

Hi,

Please undelete Talk:Alien (film)/Archive 2, Talk:Alien (film)/Archive 3 and Talk:Alien (film)/Archive 4. There's no compelling reason for insisting that talk archives should be hundreds of kilobytes long (indeed, MediaWiki flags such pages with a "please split this" warning), and browsing or viewing such pages in edit mode causes serious performance issues on at least two machines I regularly use. I'm not sure exactly which observatory this is so I'll let you add it to the appropriate articles and DYK noms

Proposed deletion of Victoria School Cross-country

The article Victoria School Cross-country has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Claims notability of team without any relevant details or citations; I merged it into Victoria_School#Cross-country_teams

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Bearian (talk) 20:45, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This statement is not true at all - "Claims notability of team without any relevant details or citations". Check under References. You guys all trying to find fault. Just being trigger-happy and double standards. DragTian (talk) 02:34, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Article Rescue Squadron Newsletter (September 2009)

This was delivered about a week ago on 25 August 2009. I missed giving you a copy! As one of the admins in ARS,[2] I have seen your name repeatedly on the member list

Today I saw your name in a recent AFD, and so I decided to finally stop by and introduce myself and say hello. I am ikip, editor since August 2005. I have been in ARS since about November of 2008. I am one of the most active, if not the most active editor now at ARS. My current projects are the new newsletter and User:Ikip/2009_September_5 created using autohokey. I am hoping it will revolutionize the way Article Rescue Squadron members all work on Articles for deletion. We always need more experienced editors like you.

Hope we get to know each other better. Hope to see you at WT:ARS sometime soon. Enjoy the newsletter. Ikip (talk) 11:47, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Review request

Hi Brian: The college librarian, his staff, and some of his students, at Union College have created a rewrite of the College's article. I was wondering if you'd be interested in giving it a read-through, and maybe do some copyediting? He's done a good job so far on the rewrite but it needs some fresh pairs of eyes to read it over before it goes live. The sandbox is here: User:Eliphaletnott/Union College. What do you think? upstateNYerformerly wadester16 19:31, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On failing a A Failure of Capitalism

Hi. I did indeed see some NPOV issues in the article while glancing over it (I fixed one), and I'll assume that they're all fixed now - the article is really outside my sphere of interest, so I don't plan on double-checking. (I am a bit concerned about the editorial voice issues I noticed, which are likely to be endemic with an article that relies more on the primary source itself than on critical commentary - but this only as a generic neutral plea.) The point I was making was the the claim as made by the user in question was frivolous: it did not address the wording, it questioned the sources in general for alleged bias, and asked you to verify him with the primary source (which is tantamount to WP:OR). So yes, it could('ve) be(en) POVed, but that was not proven by what was posted on the talk page at the time the DYK process was halted. Best, Dahn (talk) 20:57, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the NPOV banner, but as I mention on the talk page, it is not perfect. My concerns are voiced there. JEN9841 (talk) 02:37, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In addition, you recent edits are appreciated and helpful to the balance of the article. Thank you. JEN9841 (talk) 02:44, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined for Mandakini Gogate

I declined the speedy deletion for Mandakini Gogate (edit | visual edit | history) · Article talk (edit | history) · Watch because the article contains a work list that looks like that of a professional writer. However, I could not find much by googling for her name in either English or Devanagari (basically just one book out of print at Amazon), and the Marathi Wikipedia doesn't have an article about her, either. As it looks now, it fails WP:N. But that can be decided in due time, there's no need to speedy the deletion. — Sebastian 01:38, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for A Failure of Capitalism

Updated DYK query On September 9, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article A Failure of Capitalism, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Diane Schuler

Hey Bearian. I noticed you closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Diane Schuler as no consensus, which is contrary to what I voted so I'm here to bitch about it. ;) Seriously though, I was hoping if you could give me a few words about what you found in the keep votes that convinced you no consensus was appropriate. There are some very weak ones but I was wondering whether you thought the stronger ones were enough. I'm happy to wait a month or so and possibly renominating, but I was just hoping for a few words. :) \ Backslash Forwardslash / (talk) 00:44, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please be more welcoming

Hello Bearian, I just declined another speedy deletion nomination of yours, Gulam Rasool Kashmiri. Since you are an experienced administrator, I was wondering why we seem to regard CSD so differently. WP:CSD reads "Administrators should take care not to speedy delete articles except in the most obvious cases." This is why we wrote clear and strict criteria. The mausoleum article, which you tagged as WP:A1 ("Articles lacking sufficient context to identify the subject of the article.") contained appropriate categories that identify the subject of the article. So, it seems to me not the appropriate tag.

I don't know how notable that particular mausoleum is, but given our systemic bias I would wish we had a few more editors interested in cultures other than ours. My main concern, therefore, is not that individual article, but the new editor. It can't take much WP:AGF to see that he or she wanted to contribute constructively. Please put yourself into his or her shoes. Of course, you as a law professor would not mind having a number of templates on your talk page, but most people in this world find that intimidating. This would not be the first well intended editor we're losing because of that. A little understanding can go a long way; I would really urge you to take the time and help new users instead of templating them. — Sebastian 18:00, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I can see that it could look to be cold-hearted. I am not normally like that. I welcome at least one new editor a week with a welcome template. In this case, I am still not sure if the article is about a person or a place. I'll try to fix the lede. Bearian (talk) 19:10, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I welcomed the editor and cleaned up the stub to what I could guess at. I believe I am culturally competent, and have edited Asian articles, especially Japan- and Philippines-related articles. Bearian (talk) 21:48, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot for your nice reply! I know that law professors can be very culturally competent - my father was a good example![3] You're right, I don't know either if the article is about the person or the mausoleum. I assumed both, and I figured we would somehow work out the best title eventually. — Sebastian 22:08, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

TY

Thank you. upstateNYer 23:14, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Bush vomiting incident AfD

Bearian, I'm going to be honest with you. I am extremely disappointed with you. I've never had any question to question or doubt you in the past, but your edits to the article here are IMO borderline fraudulent. The way you twisted and manipulated facts are appauling and I would suggest revising the article and cleaning it up properly.---Balloonman NO! I'm Spartacus! 07:53, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Everybody is a critic. Please see WP:STICK and WP:AGF. Bearian (talk) 15:20, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
LMAO. Where were you when the article on the infamous "fly incident" was getting deleted? It was particularly fabulous! I should really dig a link up for you so you can have a look, but I might get in trouble (there are eyes and ears everywhere!)... Maybe Grundle2600 can find one for you. Anyway, good stuff. I'll see about throwing up some constructive comments in the deletion discussion when I get a chance. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:50, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see you must have deleted it, but it was not a personal attack at all. I guess as an administrator you have the right to delete a paper trail and then make false allegations. XCD (talk) 01:23, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
