New York City Meetup

Next: Sunday May 17th, Columbia University area
Last: 03/29/2009
This box: view  talk  edit

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, establish a membership process for the chapter, review the upcoming Wiki-Conference New York 2009 (planned for ~100 people at NYU this summer) and future projects like Wikipedia at the Library, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the March meeting's minutes).

In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and generally enjoy ourselves and kick back.

You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

To keep up-to-date on local events, you can also join our mailing list.

welcome

Hi, Bearian, and welcome to WikiProject Bilateral relations!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles relevant to the relations between two countries.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

Again, welcome! We hope you enjoy working on this project. Ikip (talk) 05:08, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the project. Ikip (talk) 05:08, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you may wish to be aware that the original AFD, on which you commented specifically on this relationship, has been refactored and replaced by this one. Smile a While (talk) 23:20, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your support

Re: Outliers (book)

I just don't think that we need to link to reviews, especially in the External links section. What criteria would we use to determine which reviews to include and which not to? Typically, I like to keep the External links section short, usually only including links to official websites. People can use Google for the other stuff. RfA Thank You

My RFA passed today at 75/2/1 so I wanted to thank you for your participation in it. Special thanks go to GlassCobra and FlyingToaster for their nomination and support. Cheers! --Rosiestep (talk) 02:34, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Detroit Lions vandalism never ends

Detroit Lions and 2008 Detroit Lions season came off protection today and are still getting vandalised by high school IP's. Just permanantly protect them both please. I'm sick of this B.S. TomCat4680 (talk) 21:00, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well they already semi-protected it for 1 year thanks to the high school kid. The school's IP was blocked for 24 hours. TomCat4680 (talk) 02:48, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, thank you for flagging the article I created for "rescue". Please let me know how I can improve the article. I have 2 weeks of summer break and want to make good contributions :) Agradman (talk) 18:54, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Admin Coaching

I read that you may be able to coach after May 18th? WEll, I have 1.5k edits, and think that the quality is good, but I would like coaching so that by the time i reach 3k edits I'll be wise in most things on Wikipedia. Thank You for your time and consideration. Cheers!--Þέŗṃέłḥìμŝ LifeDeath 17:15, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ThankSpam

My RfA

Thank you for participating in my "RecFA", which passed with a final tally of 153/39/22. There were issues raised regarding my adminship that I intend to cogitate upon, but I am grateful for the very many supportive comments I received and for the efforts of certain editors (Ceoil, Noroton and Lar especially) in responding to some issues. I wish to note how humbled I was when I read Buster7's support comment, although a fair majority gave me great pleasure. I would also note those whose opposes or neutral were based in process concerns and who otherwise commented kindly in regard to my record.
I recognise that the process itself was unusual, and the format was generally considered questionable - and I accept that I was mistaken in my perception of how it would be received - but I am particularly grateful for those whose opposes and neutrals were based in perceptions of how I was not performing to the standards expected of an administrator. As much as the support I received, those comments are hopefully going to allow me to be a better contributor to the project. Thank you. Very much. Well, back to the office it is...

Whose duty is it?

Hi, Bearian, this is just to remind you that there are two pages to delete: Michele Trimarchi and Neuropsychophysiology. They are tagged four times each, but no one decides to remove them, just as it happened in it.wikipedia. Thereby the question: whose duty is it? Thank you for your reply. ---- RingYourbell —Preceding unsigned comment added by PernillaPthor (talkcontribs) 06:31, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have rewritten Andy Wisne in a neutral, encyclopedic fashion. You wrote that "If I'm wrong and he really is notable, then presumably someone other than himself will inevitably be inspired to write about him." Your comment inspired me to rewrite the article. I hope you can take a look at it and reevaluate your position at the AfD. Cunard (talk) 08:18, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey!

Hi Bearian, I saw on the admin coaching page that you are available for coaching after May 18th and I was just wondering if that was accurate and if you would take me on as a coachee. Thanks, OtisJimmyOne 14:34, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. OtisJimmyOne 17:49, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Bearian, I left a question for you at the talk. And would you add more information about her singing and voice? I feel exhausted about expanding the article, and I'm not good at writing artistic evaluations on singers. I hope the article finally pass the Dyk criteria within days.--Caspian blue 16:35, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the barnstar! I've enjoyed working on the article, and right now all I have to do is just to plump up the article with "400 pounds characters"! Caspian blue 18:58, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for participating in my RfA, which succeeded with 56 in support, 12 in opposition and 3 neutral votes. I am truly honored by the trust that the community has placed in me. The PROD you placed on it was removed for some reason..... Smartse (talk) 11:23, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your suggestion regarding this article. 4 more references have been added. Since yesterday, the page was vandalized significantly by IP address 71.36.101.63. I suspect it's possible that this person will make further attempts to deface the page. If anything else needs to be done regarding the references, let me know. Thanks so much, Hhtttt (talk) 00:04, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Bearian (talk) 14:00, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again, I really appreciate your help. As of today: The subject of the article has requested that personal information such as genealogy be omitted, because of an outstanding court case regarding a violent stalker, internet impersonator, and copyright violator. There is a fear that public records will be used to locate and potentially harm her or her family. In the interest of physical safety, all other names, aliases, and birth dates besides "Naomi Elizabeth" should be removed until after the trial. Hopefully this is possible. Hhtttt (talk) 16:37, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NY-SCAN listed as a Stub

I have noticed your recent edits to NY-SCAN. You have added the {{stub}} template. This is fine and your contributions are appreciated. But in future, to aid in the expansion of articles, such as this one, please use a more specific stub template. A list of stub templates can be found here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/List of stubs. Thank you. -- Patchy1(talk) 10:55, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking care of the article, as a token of good faith I'll expand it some more.--Lenticel (talk) 01:27, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Botsina

Berian, I looked at those two. I could only access three of the four (of those three, one of those was an abstract that didn't mention the word while the other two were passing mentions). Nothing else came up on GScholar that wasn't last name-linked (i.e. Botsina was someone's name). Ergo, this is at AfD.Tyrenon (talk) 01:43, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am a bit confused at your comment here, were you serious about saying a 1 one off friendly match somehow helps establish notability? the whole reason I listed it in my nomination was to demonstrate the kind of coverage that arises from a google news search. of course, if you can prove to me that Ireland and Serbia (which only became a separate state in 2006) actually have a well documented soccer rivalry...I will stand corrected. Re: Pigah

Hi Bearian! Thank you for putting so much effort into rescuing this article. I am still concerned that there is no indication to what modern river or Wadi it might correspond to, but am satisfied that it is not a hoax. Again thank you for improving Wikipedia! —Ynhockey (Talk) 19:22, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good job fixing the Pigah article. You might be interested to know that Kidomiyon was PRODed at the same time. The PROD was removed by another user, but that article could also use a similar fixing as Pigah got. --ThaddeusB (talk) 21:36, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for also fixing Kidomiyon. --ThaddeusB (talk) 01:11, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome, and thanks to you

For the kind words on my talk page. I think that the middle ground must be sought. I am trying to compile a list of inhabited (or formerly inhabited) place articles that have been through AFD as a "list of precedents" should anyone bother to work on trying to get a geo notability guide going again (how that for alliteration...) ;0 Carlossuarez46 (talk) 22:43, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WP:NYSR inactivity check

Hello, Bearian. You are receiving this message because you are listed on the participant list of WP:NYSR. I am conducting an inactivity check on behalf of the project to see if the project still has an active editor base. The status column on the participant list will be cleared today, and to remain a listed member of the project, you must update your status on the participant list (preferably using the terms "Active", "Semi-active", or "Inactive") which is located here. Those who do not update their status after one week (by the night of June 25) and those who put inactive as their status will be removed from the list. If you have any questions, please leave a message on my talk page or at the "A smorgasbord of topics" section on WT:NYSR. Thank you for your understanding and your time. – TMF 12:27, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

People and culture of Illinois

You marked the page People and culture of Illinois with a 'rescue' tag but did not remove the PROD. If you disagree with a prod, you may remove the dated tag, and deletion can then move to AfD. I will remove the PROD on your behalf, since you are busy in real life. Cnilep (talk) 21:41, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bearian,

I've made a proposal for making Wikipedia more useful for lawyers/students/judges/professors (i.e. to challenge Wexis head-on) and I'm wondering if you'd like to take a look, or make a comment -- [[Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Law#Proposal:_New_Wikiproject.2C_offering_free_legal_research|here}}.
