Disambiguation link notification for May 17

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Hispanic American Nobility, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hidalgo. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Any suggestions how this bio can be saved with so much misinformation being included by deletionists? Castlemate (talk) 23:06, 22 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Castlemate, I made several suggestions in additional comments at the AfD page. Bearian (talk) 19:20, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. (Unsigned comment)

I just realized you gave me a badge for Steve Pearce's page in 2013. I clearly have been an erstwhile Wikipediatrician, since I only just noticed it. But it made me feel better after trying to create a new page from scratch (Helene Schneider) and it taking me forever to make a stub. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sonofawoman (talkcontribs) 02:38, 28 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Pride 2016

As a participant of WikiProject LGBT studies, you are invited to participate in the third annual Wiki Loves Pride campaign, which runs through the month of June. The purpose of the campaign is to create and improve content related to LGBT culture and history. How can you help?

  1. Create or improve LGBT-related Wikipedia pages and showcase the results of your work here
  2. Document local LGBT culture and history by taking pictures at pride events and uploading your images to Wikimedia Commons
  3. Contribute to an LGBT-related task force at another Wikimedia project (Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikivoyage, etc.)

Looking for topics? The Tasks page, which you are welcome to update, offers some ideas and wanted articles.

This campaign is supported by the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, an officially recognized affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation. The group's mission is to develop LGBT-related content across all Wikimedia projects, in all languages. Visit the affiliate's page at Meta-Wiki for more information, or follow Wikimedia LGBT+ on Facebook. Remember, Wiki Loves Pride is about creating and improving LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects, and content should have a neutral point of view. One does not need to identify as LGBT or any other gender or sexual minority to participate. This campaign is about adding accurate, reliable information to Wikipedia, plain and simple, and all are welcome! If you have any questions, please leave a message on the campaign's talk page.

Thanks, and happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:47, 30 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sunday June 5, 12-5pm: Women in Jewish History Edit-a-thon

A training session on editing Wikipedia will be held at 12:30 pm. Experienced Wikipedians will be on-hand to assist throughout the day. Please bring your laptop and power cord; we will have library resources, WiFi, and a list of suggested topics on hand.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Make edits! Ask questions! Be bold!

Common law

The article on common law has been relatively stable for many years.

In the last two weeks or so, a user, obviously not a lawyer, has gone on an edit tear. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Common_law&type=revision&diff=724544402&oldid=724079044 There are hundreds of lines on the Talk page suggesting several dozen aspects of these edits that might not be such a good idea. The recently-active editor has given no direct response to explain why the edits are a good idea.

Just as one example -- not all that important from a substantive content point of view, but telling from a procedural point of view -- the various connotations and shades of meaning for the term "common law" were explained, each footnoting to the most recent edition of Black's and several other specialist dictionaries. In the last few days, these cites have been removed.

The situation could use a view from the top by a lawyer.

Your PROD rationale seems very strange: "NN part-time religious school in a small country"

  1. It's a full time school
  2. What's the size of the country got to do with anything?

My original PROD rationale is now irrelevant, since the article now has some content. It may well not be notable, but for now I'm dePRODding it as none of the PROD rationale is appropriate. PamD 08:40, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

PamD, take a look at User:Bearian/Standards#Notability_of_High_Schools_at_WP:AfD. For what it's worth, I've visited Singapore; some time, I want to edit more articles about, and upload some images I took from, that city-state. Bearian (talk) 20:57, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
None of the points in your standards mention the size of the country. The article already stated that the school provided full time education. Your PROD rationale still seems very strange. PamD 22:44, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I added: "# Is located in a country large enough to have significant media presence online (in order to verify its existence, and has competitive sports and other teams that garner media exposure)." Bearian (talk) 23:37, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Re your Prod2 on Cold Agriculture

Hi Bearian.

I do not like deleting any article if it has the slightest half chance of being something better than it is, but I really struggled with Cold agriculture. I note your suggestion to redirect, if so where to ? I might have missed something in trying to deorphan, because a suitable redirect might also allow a sensible deorphaning ? Any ideas ? Eno Lirpa (talk) 09:59, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Eno_Lirpa, even two weeks later, I have no ideas. Sorry. Bearian (talk) 15:58, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Bearian. Thanks for getting back to me anyway. It has been merged into Deep ocean water. Eno Lirpa (talk) 11:30, 26 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

American Solidarity Party - please don't delete

I see that you have supported deletion of the entry for the American Solidarity Party. The party has only become really active in the last couple of months - but membership has grown and there are now chapters in a number of states, a central committee was formed in early July, and folks are working to get on as many ballots as possible for this fall.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CBGJpQYqOThtl1WBxXoeBv3LH_HDv1nLSVZiQjvEwLY/edit#gid=0

In addition, the party has now gotten mention in First Things - http://www.firstthings.com/tag/american-solidarity-party.

Please reconsider your vote to delete for now as the Party is seeking to grow.

Thank you.

Alex Manos Deletion (Alex Manos)

I noticed you deleted Alex Manos and I believe the comments focused on his notability. With multiple classic car TV show “expert” appearances, a large social media following, ownership of one of the largest classic car dealerships in the world, thousands of unique European classic car purchases and sales, I was hoping to understand what can be done to undelete and improve/fix outstanding issues in the hopes of better noting his value as a leading expert. Thank you, -- joe (talk) Joeharwick (talk) 21:12, 17 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I did not actually delete this article. In fact, I don't have that power any more, since I resigned after a 7-year term as an Administrator at English Wikipedia. I think you mean that I approved of its deletion at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Alex_Manos. The 8 sources you cited above are all unreliable sources, so an article can't use them as references in an encyclopedia like ours. Sorry, Joeharwick, I can't help you. Bearian (talk) 01:57, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You have to convince me and all the other editors that you have new evidence that proves his notability. I could not find anything on the Internet. I'm still waiting for you to come up with something substantial. Bearian (talk) 02:01, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

Well that was a difficult interaction.

I've seen your name around but never really checked you out. We have some pretty significantly overlapping interests, based on your userpage.

One thing I like doing is adding History sections to articles about drugs -- I'm interested in how things come to be, generally, and specifically with respect to the business and science/medicine and law stories that evolve as drugs actually get to market and what happens after.

Anyway, I wrote the history section of the Metoclopramide article the other day, which I thought would pretty mundane, and on the way I ran smack into a Supreme Court case about which no WP article yet exists, namely PLIVA, Inc. v. Mensing. There are a bunch of kinds of law going on there - regulatory, federal/state, tort, contract, etc, as well as hard issues about science and medicine. It was such a great surprise... and I don't know many folks here who would be interested. Maybe you won't be. Anyway. Good to meet you and sorry it was negative. Jytdog (talk) 23:09, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

OK, Jytdog, I just really hate edit conflicts, especially when I'm trying to rescue an article. Bearian (talk) 01:07, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
