Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!
Hello Bearian:

Did you know ... that back in 1885, Wikipedia editors wrote Good Articles with axes, hammers and chisels?

Thank you for your contributions to this encyclopedia using 21st century technology. I hope you don't get any unnecessary blisters.

January 15, 6pm: Wikimedia NYC celebrates 20 years of Wikipedia

Wikipedia Day is always a big day for Wikimedia NYC. While we cannot meet in person, we still have something special planned. We will begin the event with the debut of a new video celebrating our community. This will be followed by a panel discussion with some of the people you'll see in the video talking about Wikipedia's 20th anniversary, Wikimedia New York City, and the amazing work they do on Wikimedia projects.

The event will be broadcast live via YouTube. Feel free to ask questions for the panel through the chat!

We will also have some NYC wiki trivia you can participate in, with confectionery prizes.

Can I have your input on Draft:Lee Olesky?

Hi, I am working on a draft for Lee Olesky, the founder of Tradeweb. I am reaching out to you because I saw your name come up a few times at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Business and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Companies. Would you mind taking a look at the draft to see if it can be moved to main space, and if not, to please give me advice on how to get it there. Thank you so much for your time and effort. RossAric (talk) 15:23, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

RossAric, That looks like a decent start. However, I'd normally look for citations to a quality newspaper of record such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, or Washington Post. Warning: Forbes is not a reliable source, nor is tradweb.com, so take them out of the citations and into the "external links". You don't want to put in all this work just to have it picked apart at WP:AFD. Bearian (talk) 15:42, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Alumni magazines could be used as sources in limited circumstances, i.e., to verify attendance and date of graduation. Bearian (talk) 15:46, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for your input! I've taken out the tradeweb.com source and replaced it with a third-party source for the same information. As for your comment about Forbes, I did not use Forbes as a reference - maybe what you saw was the in-depth article from Financial News? In light of the significant coverage from Financial News and Institutional Investor, would you say the draft is ready for publishing? While not necessarily "newspapers of record," those are both strong, authoritative news outlets with significant coverage of Olesky. Thanks again! RossAric (talk) 16:24, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Bearian, This is just a gentle nudge to ask you to please take another look at the draft for Lee Olesky. Thanks again. RossAric (talk) 00:14, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lee Olesky Draft

Hi Bearian, thank you for your past help with Draft: Lee Olesky which I am working on as a COI editor. Perhaps you wouldn't mind taking the time to help me again. I implemented your previously suggested changes: removal of the Tradeweb.com source and replacing it with a better source; also, you suggested removing a "Forbes" source, but there is no Forbes source to remove. There is a Financial News source, the first one in the article, which I hope you will agree is a reliable source acceptable on Wikipedia. If after you have examined the draft and you still think it is not ready for main space, could you help me understand what else needs to be done to move the article to main space. Again, thanks for your help. RossAric (talk) 21:40, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, RossAric, but I was substitute teaching and caretaking the past year. Bearian (talk) 15:28, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Arameans

Hi, thank′s for your recent contributions to discussions related to articles on World Council of Arameans (Syriacs) and Johny Messo. I would agree with the assessment that there is a certain difference in significance between those two articles, but I am in favor of keeping both, particularly because of the role of Johny Messo and his works in the development and promotion or some pan-Aramean notions. Within the modern Aramean community, there are two main streams: the moderate (that focuses on its own identity without denial of other identities) and the radical (that propagates some pan-Aramean notions and opposes the Assyrian continuity). Since you are aware of the plight of modern Arameans, you might be also familiar with some of those important debates (and conflicts) between proponents of pan-Aramean and pan-Assyrian views. I am not an Aramean, nor an Assyrian, but within my field of research I am familiar with those issues and I also edited some articles related to those subjects. Both of those peoples are persecuted by various common adversaries, but mutual denialism between radicalized activists in both of those communities proved to be equally destructive. Those questions have been recenty analyzed by various scholars, and those analyzes also include the role of Johny Messo in modern political history of Arameans, and particularly his role in the promotion of pan-Aramean ides. I already included some referenced content to that article, but much more can be added. Could you please reconsider your assessment of the article in question? Deletion might not be the only solution, since relevant content could also be merged into World Council of Arameans (Syriacs) by creating a section dedicated to the role of Johny Messo in shaping political ideology of that organization?. Sorabino (talk) 22:22, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, maybe you already saw that recent discussion on deletion proposal for article Johny Messo was closed today, in favor of the deletion proposal. Such outcome is quite surprising, since there was no clear consensus for deletion: two votes were in favor of keep, one was for complete deletion, and one (yours) was optional - for deletion or selective merger. Such structure of votes would imply at least relisting, but not total deletion, without leaving even a redirect to the more general article (World Council of Arameans). I am trying to get some clarifications from the closer, but it seems that a review might be needed. Sorabino (talk) 00:50, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorabino Over 80 % of articles nominated for deletion are deleted, redirected, or merged, so it's not surprising. I'm in agreement 90 % of the time. Bearian (talk) 14:26, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Christopher McCombs

Hi Brian! Thank you for the comment on the article deletion for my page about Christopher McCombs. It has now been relisted as either a keep or redirect. I wanted to ask if you had any advice for me on improving the article. Since your comment I have already altered the article and added a new section. Do you think it is editorially okay now? Any advice is appreciated! Thank you again. Michaelwvideo (talk) 11:55, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Bearian,

I just came across your user page and found the information very helpful. I encourage you to move it into Wikipedia space where it might be more visible. I realize that these conclusions are your own, not the product of a consensus discussion but as an infrequent participant at AFD, I think they would be useful to others, especially on occupational categories where a casual editor might not have developed their own understanding of what it means to be notable. Please consider it! Liz Read! Talk! 21:01, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
