I don't see that rewording as an improvement, since the reader has no idea what Dogali was. In the original wording, it was clear that Dogali was a battle between Italy and Ethiopia and the latter won. I don't see the problem you see in this sentence:
From early in the "scramble", Italy had designs on the Ethiopian Empire, but was twice defeated in the 19th century: first at the Battle of Dogali in 1887 and then in the first invasion of Ethiopia in 1895–96.
It is clear that Dogali wasn't an invasion of Ethiopia, since the 1895 invasion is described as the first. Do you think that Italian expansion in Eritrea was not intended at the expense of Ethiopia even before Dogali? Srnec (talk) 22:32, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
I think it makes more sense how it's worded right now. The Battle of Dogali was a strategic attack of the Ethiopians in an area occupied by Italy, so that battle was not really wanted by Italy (which the word "designs" suggest). Military strength indicator
Hello,
When you added the table https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Military&diff=prev&oldid=868050475 you wrote ('000) under "Active personnel". I can't find any explanations on the meaning of it. I thought it could mean you have to add three 0 when you read the column, but it doesn't work (Germany doesn't have 29 000 soldiers but much more for instance). What does it mean ? Italica
Please don't change referenced content. Italica was founded by Scipio at the end of the third century B.C. and became a municipium under Julius Caesar. Hadrian made him a colonia, and under him it became one of the largest cities of Spain. Before him it was little more than a village. This is referenced in the source which I added (Syme, 1964). - No, I added the information about the municipium, since it is in Syme (1964), p. 144. "Italica, founded by Scipio in 206 A.C. and given the status of a municipium by Caesar, was a small place." Do you have access at JSTOR? If yes, please read the article. There is plenty of information about the city, Hadrian Trajan and their families. I personally find it very unlikely that the settlement received municipium status at the time of its foundation in 206, because that would imply granting roman citizenship (full or partial) to its inhabitants, but at that time the Italics generally were not supposed to be eligible for it. Ancestry section
Greetings, I have seen your many edits on the article Charles V, and could use your help. Charles V’s descendant’s article, Maximilian I of Mexico, is being targeted for an unknown reason and the ancestry section is being repeatedly deleted (on the talk page they say no sources show a genealogical tree and trees should be deleted) However, I have given three sources that show his ancestry and the very reason the Archduke was chosen as Mexican emperor was his ancestry. The overwhelming majority of articles on royals throughout Europe and elsewhere have their ancestry charts intact. The articles for Elizabeth II, George VI of the United Kingdom, Louis XV, Maria Theresa of Spain, Elisabeth of France, Mary of Teck, Franz Joseph I of Austria, Archduke Franz Karl of Austria, Charles V, etc. all have them! Is it justified that all those, including his wife, have ancestry charts, but his chart is deleted?

Hi! I thought I'd ask about this edit that you made to Traia gens. The list of members was in alphabetical order, since the majority of inscriptions could not be securely dated. Thus "Traia" (with no cognomen) would go before anyone named "Traius", and "Gaius Traius" would come before "Marcus Traius". Since there is no mention of dates with any of these people, and they are not mentioned in a fixed order from a single inscription, I cannot figure out what the purpose of moving Traia and Gaius Traius after Marcus Traius—and placing Traia third after both of the men—would have been. - I imagine it would be difficult to explain geographical order. True, when two people go in the same position alphabetically I might place the one from Rome ahead of the one from Dacia. But beyond that, possibly placing Rome first, then other parts of Italy, I cannot think of a system that would make clear sense to everyone—clockwise around a map of the Empire, beginning with Hispania? I think that a whole list organized this way would make it hard to find people, compared with sorting them by name or date. It might make sense with very large families, but in the case of prominent ones I don't usually include everyone found in epigraphy; it would be impractical, and so I seek out inscriptions only for smaller families, usually with less than a hundred known members including those from inscriptions.
- If it helps to know this, my usual practice with these articles is to place anyone mentioned by Roman writers first, and if there are not very many, then to collect them with the others who can be dated in rough chronological order, because there is some value to seeing how a family's prominence or distribution changes through time. Then there is a section for all those persons who cannot be dated—either by the epigraphic entry in the C-S Datenbank, or other factors such as a mention of the consuls, or that the inscription came from Pompeii, and was thus no later than AD 79. However, in this case only one or two of the people in a short list could be dated, so it did not seem to make sense to separate them into their own section. I saw your edit on Ammianus. Can you provide a source for this? Ammianus often does not use technical terms for things, including offices, so it is entirely possible that he refers to an eastern empire and a western empire, or the same for emperors, or the “parts” of the empire, etc. But that does not mean that there was a formally constituted Eastern Roman Empire (with capital letters), that we then have to treat as a separate state. Possible sockpuppet
I just finished reading the sections map (again) and area (on the discussion page of Spanish Empire)and I realized that LucenseLugo had said on two occasions that he was "agreeing" (in a very "there is a consensus here" way) with Venezia Friulano, a sockpuppet. I don’t know if he was already suspected so I’m just going to show you what I mean. Aside from the following phrases he was seemingly making mainly the same arguments than Venezia Friulano.

- During the Iberian Union, Portugal and its colonial territories belonged to the Spanish Habsburg Monarchy (Felipe II, Felipe III, Felipe IV), so I don't find any problem stating that they were territories of the Hispanic Monarchy at that time.- But more important: It is curious how for the Spanish Empire some want to use a "maximum extension map" instead of an anachronous one despite the fact that the Portuguese Empire, the British Empire or the French colonial Empire (among many others) clearly use anachronous maps.Very strange, for sure. What I denounce is that there are veteran users with a lot of free time (aka TompaDompa) who have shielded articles to avoid being edited by other users, which goes against the essence of Wikipedia.Of course the List of the Largest Empires article is stable and old, but because it's an article that can only be edited by TompaDompa. There have been many attempts to edit the article by other users with alternative measurement sources (for the Spanish Empire and for many other Empires), but in this article his only fetish source Taagepera (1997) prevails, unilaterally deleting all those alternative sources that he doesn't like. The article is in fact an article almost just for Taagapera's views, its just surreal. I even thought that Taagepera could be a relative of his, due to the insane obsession with this specific author, eliminating almost everyone else in the academy.This user is already well known, I am just one of many who have denounced his abuse of power. I have just reverted your edits to the lead, and am letting you know why I have done so.
- you left this comment Bernini and Maderno are both Baroque. This church began during the Renaissance and was completed during the Baroque and many changes and original additions were made til the end of construction.
- Both these architect/designers worked in the Baroque period. However, Maderno, in constructing the nave, followed the design of his predecessor, Michelangelo. When he came to design the façade, he looked at the giant order that Michelangelo had employed on the rest of the building and he simply went with that, using columns, rather than pilasters. The building is very far from being a great work of Baroque architecture.
- On the other hand, Bernini's fitting are truly Baroque, and the colonnade is a Baroque concept. Bernini was probably the first person to understand the tension that Michelangelo set up by encircling the east end with a giant order.
