Me

I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.

— Albert Einstein, Letter to Carl Seelig (11 March 1952)

It is true that software cannot exercise its powers of lightness except through the weight of hardware. But it is the software that gives the orders, acting on the outside world and on machines that exist only as functions of software and evolve so that they can work out ever more complex programs. The second industrial revolution, unlike the first, does not present us with such crushing images as rolling mills and molten steel, but with "bits" in a flow of information traveling along circuits in the form of electronic impulses. The iron machines still exist, but they obey the orders of weightless bits.

— Italo Calvino, Six Memos for the Next Millennium, English translation: Patrick Creagh (1996)

Here’s to the crazy ones.

The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward. Maybe they have to be crazy. How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that's never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels? We make tools for these kinds of people. While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Bio?

I'm an entrepreneur and engineer from Milan, Italy (European Union).

10 May 2020 Statement: This week, together with the other editors of WikiProject COVID-19, I have been awarded the Editor of the Week award. I regard this as a great honour and think we did a spectacular job in keeping Wikipedia scientifically accurate and providing a valid reference during those trying times. I think our work showed the full potential that this great project can achieve. In the same week I have been topic banned by a Kangaroo court for attempting to scientifically cover topics related to Ufology: [1] I wear this ban as a badge of honour and do not recognise the authority that imposed it. I fell in love with Wikipedia over 10 years ago. It was a wonderful project and I always strived to contribute to it in adherence with the Wikipedia:Five pillars which I believe are an important contribution to human development. Unfortunately, I have lost faith with this incredible project which is now run by an ever shrinking number of users as an oligarchy of power tripping admins. I have no time for this. This project is failing as the decline in editors demonstrates. Now I know why. Maybe one day I will be back. Maybe things will have changed and the project will have returned to it's founding principles. I sincerely hope so. -- Gtoffoletto
