Implementing WP:MOSMAC2

| link alias-tennis = F.Y.R. Macedonia {{{mw}}} Cup team

with the following: 

| name alias-football = Macedonia
| name alias-basketball = Macedonia
| name alias-tennis = Macedonia
| link alias-tennis = Macedonia {{{mw}}} Cup team

Reason: These parameters are transcluded to various international sports-related articles for use in flag templates (for tables, results lists etc.). As per the new naming guideline WP:MOSMAC2, the country should generally not be called "FYR Macedonia" in such contexts, even in articles about organisations that officially do so; and it can be called plain "Macedonia" wherever that is practically unambiguous, which is usually the case in international sports contexts (because such entries always refer to independent countries.) Macedonia (former Yugoslav Republic of)

Trying to figure this out. I don't know how Template:Flag decides what name to use for a country. I am trying to get

{{Template:flag|Macedonia (former Yugoslav Republic of)}}

To produce this:

{{Template:flag|Macedonia}}

This is because when I update List of countries by incarceration rate I do it all at once in a few minutes. So I am stuck with whatever the source list provides. I do not have time to manually enter any changes in the hundreds of countries.

But they don't.

I would be happy if they all produced Macedonia (Republic of) too. As long as Macedonia is the first word. This helps with table sorting, and with people scanning an alphabetical table list. --Timeshifter (talk) 14:25, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Problem solved. After studying Wikipedia:WikiProject Flag Template, I see I was using the wrong flag template. I need to use Template:Flagcountry instead of Template:Flag.

Undo the most recent revision to the template by Alex 21 at 14:43, 19 February 2019, {{Country data North Macedonia}} already exists for this purpose. The templates should by similar to Template:Country data FR Yugoslavia and Template:Country data Serbia and Montenegro. Also, WP:MOSMAC is still binding until the RfC closes on 17 March. S.A.
