Whatever. I didn't think that a company whose name is not mentioned and I forget using wastewater to make something that was then fed to animals was really either encyclopaedic about Wyeth, nor that the paragraph was well-enough written to remain in the page in its present form. It looks more like a piece of something else to me. The phrasing is really rather painful, and it is arguably libellous. Midgley 12:09, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is this information even relevant to Wyeth? The waste disposal was contracted to a 2nd party (Cara), who then sold it to 3rd party (Bioland), who then disposed of it improperly. I think it is notable enough for an article about Bioland, but not Wyeth. This bullet should be removed. Mc roach 00:39, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The controversial drug was not Phentermine, but fenfluramine. Wyeths produced it, along with their licenced dexifenfluramine. Fenflurimine is actually a combination of both levo- and dexi- fenfluramine.

AHP purchased Ayerst, but Wyeth (research was in Philadelphia then Radnor, PA) and Ayerst (research was in Monmouth Junction, NJ and Chazy, NY), and did not merge operations until 1987. They operated as separate companies until the 1987 merger, at which point they were renamed "Wyeth-Ayerst" and several years later "Wyeth". 2. Also saw a comment at bottom of the talk page concerning whether Wyeth is a subdivision of Pfizer--that is not so. Pfizer took over Wyeth [1/26/2009, NY Times) [2] The name Wyeth remained on the products until the merger was approved by the FDA, which usually takes about a year (approved 10/15/2009 Wall Street Journal) [3] Then the company name of Wyeth changed over to Pfizer, and they begin to produce product labeling as such. Wyeth is no more, since all approvals went through and they had the time to change over the labeling.

3. There seems to be several typos I noted: The first comment above regarding fen-phen misspelled the drug names. They are: dexfenfluramine, not dexifenfluramine nor dexi- fenfluramine. The original drug that was marketed was fenfluramine, synthesized as a racemic mixture of the dextro and levo enantiomers. Redux contained only the active isomer dexfenfluramine. Separating and marketing the active isomer is generally done for an improved safety profile (not decreased cost), since racemic drugs contain 50% inactive chemical (ie, inactive for the pharmacologic purpose intended) and may be a source of side effects. This is basic pharmacology/toxicology of racemic drugs. A racemate is often studied and developed as a single isomer (after approval of the racemate) if feasible. This obviously takes additional development time. An example of a racemic drug that would not be marketed as the single isomer is the occasion when ingesting the isolated isomer, it racemizes back into the levo and dextro enatiomers when it hits the acid environment of the stomach.

4. In the first paragraph of the article, it states that Wyeth was known for producing Advil and Robitussin. This is not so, the OTC division of AHP was Whitehall (originally in Hammonton, New Jersey),renamed Whitehall-Robins some time after purchasing Robins (Richmond, VA)), but Hammonton phased out manufacturing operations in 1994. Several purchases and reorganizations took place after the initial Wyeth-Ayerst merger (too many to enumerate here). For example, the AHP name was dropped after selling off the food products and the company decided to focus primarily on pharmaceuticals and renamed this arm Wyeth (there was also Fort Dodge veterinary medicine in Iowa). The above Whitehall-Robins was combined with Wyeth Consumer Health, which included the purchase of Solgar Vitamins and Lederle Laboratories' OTC line (Centrum Vitamins and other products). My take (as a former employee) is that if I can see numerous factual errors just by breezing through it, the author was not familiar enough with the company. Serious controversies about Wyeth products

I'm not experienced enough to edit this page, but there are issues about this company that should be present and aren't. Is there someone that can add this info, please?

1) There is almost certainly a link between Prempro and Premarin and increased breast cancer risk. 2) The methods of obtaining and producing Prempro and Premarin are controversial as they involve animal cruelty. 3) Wyeth continues to push Congress to pass legislation (Bioidentical Health Legislation) to make it illegal for doctors to prescribe compounded medicines which are in direct competition to some of Wyeth's products. These alternative medications are safe and effective, available by prescription only, and necessary to many thousands of patients.

Wyeth's ghostwriters

"Wyeth Pharmaceuticals hired ghostwriters to produce at least 40 articles in medical journals supporting the use of hormone-replacement drugs by menopausal women, according to files unsealed as part of lawsuits over the products."

Dristan?

This page contains a list of drugs, among them Dristan. The word Dristan is in double brackets as though it led to an article with that title but it redirects to the top of the page. This seems like an inappropriate redirect. I think I'm going to get rid of the redirect.Moisture (talk) 01:23, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article Tone

Why does this article read like Wyeth no longer exists?

As a subsidiary of Pfizer, all of the drugs that Wyeth manufactured at still labeled and marked with the Wyeth logo and as far as I can tell, the Wyeth "division" of Pfizer still operates much like it did before the purchase.
