Week 6 Assignment from Nwitzofsky

Hello Ncathey17, I saw that you added the following sentences to the Trichophagia article:

"Trichophagia is mostly commonly found in adolescents and children. Appromixately five to eighteen percent of childern who have Trichotillomania (which is a skin picking disorder) also ingest hair as well. Thirty seven percent of childern who have Trichophagia and Trichotillamania have a chance of forming trichobezoar. Some of the side affects are loss of hair, stomach growth and vomiting."

The citation for this article looks correct, but you could add the date the article was written and revised ("Received May 27, 2004; revision received Oct. 8, 2004"). I found a few errors with your sentences. First, you stated that Trichotillomania is a "skin picking disorder" while the article states that it is recurrent hair pulling. I would change the word "skin" to "hair" so that it reads: Trichotillomania (which is a hair pulling disorder). Secondly, you have many spelling errors within your paragraph. The word "children" is spelled wrong twice, once in the second sentence and again in the third sentence. "Approximately" is spelled wrong in the second sentence, and "Trichotillomania" is misspelled in the third sentence as well. Lastly, I would reword the last sentence and change "affects" to "effects."

That sentence was cited to a 2005 case report, and was contradicted by a 2008 secondary review-- I have removed the incorrect info. There are correct sources in the article citations now-- please use them. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 14:43, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Trichophagia in Animals

This article presents trichophagia as a human psychological disorder rather than as a behavior. Could we expand the article to include trichophagia as a behavior throughout the animal kingdom? I have seen several animals eat and lick (and in some cases regurgitate) hair. I do not believe those behaviors are considered psychological disorders - but they are still acts of trichophagia. 71.175.177.174 (talk) 18:37, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
