Just deleted this bit of oddness from the end of the article:

A famous Doctor is Dr.Bushnohk. He is a Russian therapist that lives in Japan, he recently visited southern California and had a client that was a young 13 year old girl who lives in Oak Park. She has the new found disease that shocked therapists from all over the world. It is a very sad, scaring disease that can not be cured. The disease of the young girl is called Vicki-fobia, she had the privilege of naming the new found disease. Unfortunately for this young girl she will die within the next three months. There is a big reward for whoever turns in the person who caused this disease. Redirect

I have redirected this namespace to Psychotherapy. The attempt to write an article about the nebulous group of things that are therapeutic is misguided. It is essentially a dicdef followed by a nutshell of Therapeutic effect. This article should not exist because it is not about any clear topic. That was a very poor decision. Please do not do something like that again. There are many forms of "therapy", like chemotherapy, that have absolutely nothing to do with psychotherapy. WhatamIdoing (talk) 01:26, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

I am of the opinion that this article should not exist, because there is no clear article topic. The various topics are already covered, to much greater extent, in other namespaces: medicine is one, list of therapies is another. I am not at all surprised that this article is so underdeveloped: I see no way to draw the various piecemeal topics discussed in this namespace into a cohesive whole.

In regards to the namespace: If not discussing psychotherapy, people tend to use the word "therapy" with a word or prefix which indicates the type: chemotherapy, nutritional therapy, animal therapy, etc. The only context of which I am aware, where a person simply says "therapy" and people immediately know what the person means, it is psychotherapy: "I am in therapy" or "I started therapy", etc, otherwise the person would indicate the type of therapy. Redirecting seems to be a sensible choice, or a disambiguation page perhaps. What's your take? Whatever404 (talk) 00:28, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm open to moving the page, perhaps over the Medical treatment redirect. But in general, I don't think that "therapy" means only psychotherapy. For example, I've heard elderly people doing stroke rehab say that it was "time for my therapy", meaning that it was time to do a series of exercises. Types of therapy

Can we get a lay-accessible description of "supportive therapy" on this page that isn't supportive psychotherapy? The phrase is commonly used in connection with comatose patients, who are most certainly not receiving any form of talk therapy. WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:32, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

"Supportive therapy" is commonly used in the medical community to mean something like "treatment to alleviate symptoms without going after the root cause of the disease". See link. For example, some diseases are self-limited ("will go away on their own") and do not require treatment beyond symptomatic relief. Thus "supportive therapy" is not restricted to a psychiatric context. Is it possible that the etymology of 'Therapy' comes from 'Theravada (Buddhism)'?

Is is possible that the word 'therapy' is derived from 'Therapeutae', an ancient philosophy order at Middle East (one of the recognized centers was in Alexandria)? 'Therapeutae' itself has no clear etymology in the Greek linguistic and many speculates that it is actually derived from Pali word Theravada. It got to the Middle East possibly brought by King Ashoka's missionaries that went as far as Greece and Egypt in their missions.

(anyway, I'm an Indonesian, and I'm not an active wikipedia editer, therefore forgive me if there's bad English or I put this discussion in the wrong section)

A very important question: can anybody find information on which fraction of disease can actually be treated?

This would be riveting information for this entry. Can anybody find information on how many disease can actually be treated?

I believe your average Joe hugely overestimates this since doctors usually prescribe something even though the drugs are against the symptoms at best and often don't even come close to a cure. We'd need to find out how many disease medics believe exist and which fraction of those have a treatment / cure. Any ideas? --— J.S.^talk 15:39, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
