In my opinion, the sentence is at best simplistic. It is certainly not the logical conclusion of the reference. 'Regular' sotalol is composed of D and L isomers as a racemic mixture. Both isomers have class III activity, but only the L isomer has class II activity. The study specifically chose the D isomer to exclude beta-blocker activity. However the benefits of beta blockade in acute MI are well-known.
While beta-blockers are not indicated in acute LVF, they are useful in stable disease. [Metoprolol, carvedilol and bisoprolol certainly are, and this probably represents a class effect.] Axl 12:21, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)
