Merger prosposal

I propose we merge History of Hanover into Province of Hanover. I propose this because splitting these two articles makes it difficult for readers to get all the information. Since Hanover is a former province, there isn't really any point of having two articles. --I dream of horses (T) @ 18:31, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Makes sense. Splitting this subject seems counter-intuitive for readers. The two combined total less than 20kb, so length is not an issue. / edg 22:06, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • The problem is that the history article covers not only the province of Hanover, but earlier history such as Brunswick-Lüneburg, Electorate of Hanover and Kingdom of Hanover as well. So if it's to be merged, material has to be split between all of those articles. Now, that would be counter-intuitive for the readers. Having all of the history in one article seems better. The land of Hanover only existed as a province for 80 years. Before it was an independent country, during a long period of time connected to the British Empire by a personal union. It has been occupied and annexed after a Prussian aggressive act which was not legal. I really have big problems reading the history of my home country in an article Province of Hanover. After dissolving Prussia the former Province formed the Land of Hanover before being united with its neighbours to Lower Saxony. I propose to change the title of this article to Land of Hanover. -- Hotti4 80.228.22.56 (talk) 18:12, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"Land" is an unfortunate choice in English, since it has a slightly different sense or implication from German; it implies an ill-defined territory, characterized geographically or demographically, rather than a politically organized entity. I would suggest State of Hanover instead.RandomCritic (talk) 06:33, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
On further consideration, it is evident that moving the History of Hanover article into Province of Hanover, an article intended to refer only to the Prussian-dominated portion of Hanover's history, was an error. I have corrected it by reverting to the previous state of affairs.RandomCritic (talk) 06:47, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

English

This, and many other Wikipedia pages on Germany, are badly in need of a German-English translator. James Galloway (talk) 00:58, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
