Postmature birth → Postterm pregnancy — The text in this article seems to exclusively deal with the postterm pregnancy period rather than the ensuing birth. The monitoring section may be mistaken for being post-delivery monitoring with the current article name. Very few of the linked reference sites in the Classification and external resources refer to the birth itself. ICD-10 uses Prolonged pregnancy (ICD-10_Chapter_XV:_Pregnancy,_childbirth_and_the_puerperium, although postterm is more common than prolonged, postdate or prolonged gestation. Consider re-wording the following sentences: The causes of post-term births is unknown. But post-mature births are more likely when the mother has experienced a previous post-mature birth.

Placental deterioration after 48 weeks

Hi, I've done some limited searching on pubmed and I can't find anything about the placenta starting to deteriorate after 48 weeks. The reference was added on the 23 November 2010‎ by IP "66.216.211.130". Anybody have any ideas where this comes from or useful technical terms to use when looking for information? Veterinary vocabulary

"Postmature" is also used for animals, e.g. cattle. But there the definition in this article with "42 weeks" wont apply. Could someone either add a phrase, add a section or create a page to resolve this. THANKS. 99.11.160.111 (talk) 19:00, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Workplan for Postterm Pregnancy

I am a 4th year medical student who is interested in the topic Postterm pregnancy. In the next few weeks, I am planning to edit the part Monitoring because the description of each monitoring method is quite short. I will avoid close paraphrasing or plagiarism. I will find secondary resources with proper citations from sites such as PubMed, UpToDate, etc. I will identify whether the sources are neutral or biased. It will be noted if a source is biased. After editing Monitoring, I will try to edit other portions.

Updates: I was able to expand the section monitoring by adding more details to each method. I also added the section fetal doppler monitor because it is one of the most common methods. I removed the part Ultrasound scans because of the lack of evidence/citation and overlapping with biophysical profiles. After editing the section monitoring, I also edited the section Prevalence by adding more numbers with citations. Shunyiwan (talk) 00:14, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Great additions to this article! Specific feedback:

Excellent expansion of information in the Monitoring section with properly cited reliable sources.
I like the reorganization of topics to flow better. It's good to consider both detailed content and overall article organization in the editing process.
I also like that you corrected errors in other sections that you did not explicitly list in your original plan. It shows that you were dedicated to the overall strength and content of the entire article and not just your assigned subsections.
One suggestion for improvement: the wording in Monitoring > Fetal movement recording could be improved. Specifically, "A rate of fewer than 10 movements in 2 hours is not a good sign" is a leading statement and I could not find this wording in the linked ACOG source. This edit may not even be from you originally, but since you're working on this subsection, I think it would be good to reword it to remove any implication of good/bad, and to just stick to cited facts that a doctor should be contacted in that scenario.
The last sentence in the NST section is lacking a citation ("the doctor may not suggest induced labor"). Consider expanding this section with citations to explain the outcomes of an NST ("if results normal, this; if results abnormal, this").

Reply to Peer review: Thank you for all the comments! They are very useful. I have already removed those 2 leading statements to remain a neutral standpoint. Besides that, I also added a section of Definitions since there are some terms that may sound similar to audience. (e.g. Postterm vs postmaturity) My next part to edit is going to be Signs and Symptoms. I added a brief intro to guide audience on how signs and symptoms of postmaturity are actually relevant to the article Postterm Pregnancy. I will continue to add more contents.
