Periplasmic space in gram-positive bacteria

Has it been firmly established that there is no periplasmic space in gram-positive bacteria? As I understood it, there was some debate, but there were indications to suggest that there is. In fact, even the cited source makes it sound like there is: "Cryo-electron microscopy reveals native polymeric cell wall structure in Bacillus subtilis 168 and the existence of a periplasmic space".
