I have removed this, as Orchitis has nothing to do with Parotitis: "Orchitis in young children might be a complication of parotitis because mumps is a common cause for childhood orchitis." Orchitis is too distended from parotid infection. Also, I believe that Orchitis is a complication caused by theMumps Virus rather than an infection of the parotid glands. Dehydration
Please add statistics on how common dehydration is as a cause of parotitis if you know any. For now i think the uptodate ref will do to at least support that dehydration is a common cause. They even claim it's the most common. PizzaMan (♨♨) 18:28, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
- Parotitis i.e. any inflammation of the parotid glands, is a general term. Dehydration probably plays a greater or lesser role in the various causes of parotitis. For example it appears that dehydration is not involved in mumps, whereas in ascending bacterial infections of parotid gland would be more common in someone who is dehydrated often (or has some other cause of dry mouth or hyposalivation).
