NRG1 and schizophrenia: sources

I noticed a significant dearth of information regarding the mechanism by which mutated Neuregulin 1 contributes to immune system dysregulation. After investigating the effects of the transmembrane domain mutation in the Type 3 isoform on levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, I was able to add content about how the ICD acts as a transcription suppressor for certain pro-inflammatory cytokines. This seemed necessary to add because although the reference (Marballi et al.) was on the original wikipedia page, a clear explanation was not. I also added to the Clinical Significance portion of this page. I noticed that there was a shortage of information involving the relationship between Neuregulin 1 and schizophrenia, so I felt it appropriate to contribute in this regard. I added information regarding Neuregulin 1's role in synaptic plasticity, as well as changed the way that the "Function" section was organized. Specifically, I titled the section "Structure & Function" and added the subsection of "Synaptic Plasticity." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jgalvin2015 (talkcontribs) 15:40, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There was a recent study (Sanders, et al., 2008 Am J Psychiatry) of 1,870 cases and 2,002 controls. They did not find any significant association between schizophrenia and NRG1 (or RGS4, DISC1, DTNBP1, STX7, TAAR6, PPP3CC, DRD2, HTR2A, DAOA, AKT1, CHRNA7, COMT, and ARVCF).Wormbuff (talk) 14:19, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On each schizophrenia risk gene, results of different studies are in conflict. This study also could be mentioned to give the reader a more balanced picture. --CopperKettle 14:37, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
