Muhammad or Mohammed?

Is there any confirmed spelling of his full name?

Shahabuddin Chuppu or Mohammed Shahabuddin

Official name would be Mohammed Shahabuddin as Election Commission Seratariat of Bangladesh has issued a gazette stating his name as Md. Shahabuddin. Chuppu may be his nickname. Please consider the issue. Thanks. Rubel Shaikh (talk) 16:47, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@আফতাবুজ্জামান: I've observed the media converage since his nomination and it seems they have all gone from calling him "Shahabuddin Chuppu" to "Muhammad Shahabuddin". In light of this we should change the article title to "Shahabuddin Chuppu". AMomen88 (talk) 02:12, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think we need to be patient to wait a few more weeks to see the result of the media-coverage transformation after his inauguration. In addition, more information (particularly in English) will be revealed at the official level with more trustworthiness and reliability. It is not to media to decide anyone name, as a freeman he himself only has write to change or use other name! Chuppu is his nickname but for official purpose Mohammed Shabbuddin is confirmed original form of writing! Mr. Shabbuddin was a bank chairman and according to the website that bank its "Mohammed Shabbuddin"! I don't think so that a president elect and ex judge was stupid enough to let a bank organ to spell his name in incorrect way as its very sensible financial issue too! For skeptical mind official announcement of bangabhaban website will be a final prove! Pathetic, how high important thing work in Bangladesh! Shahabuddin recently published his book named 'Egiye Jabe Bangladesh' as 'Md. Shahabuddin Chuppu'. Not only in his book, but almost every column he wrote to newspapers. Guess he himself personally uses his name including Chuppu.

Shahabuddin Chuppu → Mohammed Shahabuddin – As per Bengali Muslim tradition, almost everyone has nickname for unofficial and family purpose. Chuppu is his nickname and falsely used as family name see the discussion above! It is clear and official now- Mohammed Shahabuddin is the common and official name. However, I don't think it should be shortened to "Md" The gazette is in Bangla, in which it is usually written as "মোঃ" or the short form of "Md" but in English, it's not shortened (see his name on the official website) and written as "Mohammed". — T. 20:18, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
