Standard Design and location
While there is no trade group of tattoo parlours or artists, a medical group such as the AMA should standardize the many tattoo designs and their location http://www.diabetesadvocacy.com/tattoos.htm so that EMT's and ER physicians cannot miss the tattoo.

I read of identical twins or multiple being marked with a simple dot tatoo to help tell them apart and was wondering if this practice was common, and thought it might be mentioned here if it was. Anyone know? -- Horkana (talk) 16:51, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
Speculation about old medical tattoos
@Jytdog: I have removed some crap, but I think it is highly likely that that other example of medical tattooing should be removed or changed. We may report that there is/was speculation about the possibility that certain tattoos were medical tattoos, but I did some googling and that revealed that much of that speculation came from sources I would not consider reliable. I would argue this article has been overpruned. It lacks any mention of https://www.electropages.com/blog/2020/05/get-inked-how-tattoos-are-being-used-medical-purposes, and while it is speculative that his tattoos were for medical reasons, it is reasonable and a popular opinion among experts in the field. As good as you can get with archaeology or history, where vague mentions of things are somewhat reliable sources.
