Rename to "List of"

  • There are many hospitals around the world with the name "University Hospital". I expected this article to be a disambiguation page for hospitals named "University Hospital", but this page seems to be more of a list of teaching hospitals. This list should be moved to seperate article under the title List of teaching hospitals, with a link to teaching hospitals. There is already a similar List of children's hospitals.

I agree with the above point. Also, many public and private universities which are not listed here have some fairly renowned hospital institutions. It might be useful to add a note that this list is not comprehensive (more like a tiny subset of all the university hospitals that exist). - HoosTrax 19:41, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since no one has objected to this over the last year, I'm moving University hospital to List of university hospitals. List of teaching hospitals will redirect to List of university hospitals. I'm choosing university over teaching since this currently is a list of university hospitals. Having a list of all teaching hospitals in the world in one article might be overly ambitious. And there are already established categories for that (Category:Teaching hospitals). University hospital will redirect to teaching hospital and I'll add in a sentence in the lead like "university hospitals are teaching hospitals affiliated with a university." --Scott Alter 21:48, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • In Hungary you have 4 medical universities: Budapest(Semmelweis - SOTE), Debrecen(DOTE), Szeged(SzOTE) and Pécs(POTE). I dont have time to add(or dont know to), but anyone please do. mrm 14:30 24 august 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.238.82.126 (talk)
  • Confusing "teaching" and "university hospitals" can be very problematic in the U.S. Especially for medical students looking for potential residencies. "University Hospital" residencies tend to be much more respected and competitive for residency, followed by "University Affiliated Regional or Community Hospitals," followed finally by "Community Hospitals." There are a few notable few exceptions to this knowledge, Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic for example. If this is to be an accurate list, it must define both, as they are different. A university hospital should be defined as such, and a regional hospital with an affiliation should be signed. For example, UCONN has its own hospital, this is a university hospital. Western Connecticut Health System is affiliated with Yale, New York Medical College, and New York College of Osteopathic Medicine-but it is not a University Hospital in any way. It is however a respected regional teaching hospital with university affiliations that has house staff in EM, IM, Cardiology, Anesthesiology, and many more. Another very large teaching hospital is Christiana Health Care in Delaware. It, however, is still not a University Hospital as it does not have it's own University. Affiliation is different than the exclusive permanent relationship forged between a University Hospital and its medical school.

FREIDA's Database actually defines each of these as either University , University Affiliated, or Community. Since the AMA is the authority on GME in the US, they are the accurate source. To make this an accurate article it must reflect the classifications assigned by the AMA. Either University or Community hospitals should be denoted with an asterisk or some other identifiable notation, and defined as such. Impact2d (talk) 06:54, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
