Double-listing and poorly thought out list

First off, Keira Knightley's listed in two categories: confirmed as having dyslexia and unconfirmed. Which is it?

Second, I agree that it's foolish to list pre-modern age persons as having dyslexia (particularly the likes of thomas jefferson, known to be ambidextrous). I'd like some more proof of Jefferson, Washington, Einstein, et al, or I will delete their names. I'll do a bit of research first and will post the names I plan to remove here before doing so, if anyone wishes to dispute. Manticore 22:35, 30 August 2005 (UTC)

Austin Community College District

I have substantially slimmed this list down. I removed every name that did not have dyslexia mentioned in the repected article. As a dyslexic, I can assure you, it is not something that simply goes away nore do I think it is worth it to try and seperate people in to varying degrees of dyslexia, since such a thing is nearly impossible to quantify so I morphed these two lists together. However, it might be useful to list individuals who are widely beleived to have had dyselixa but died before the terms inception, such as Einstein and da Vinci, however the persons article must be the final judge. I'm going to keep an eye on this list, anyone added to it that does not have dyslexia mentioned in their article will be removed. --The_stuart 17:22, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Listing names

I was going to add some names to the list but noticed the following warning "Persons added to this list who do not have dyslexia mentioned in their article will be removed" There are many names missing from this list that could be varified like Bill Gates, Wayne Gretzky and Nolan Ryan to name a few. Should I add them to the list AND add that they are dyslexic in there article? I could also add a footnote to where this info. came from--69.156.151.238 08:23, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

  • I think the best way to do this would be to add the fact that they are diagnosed to their article with the refrence, then add their name to this list. We don't want people finding this list and going to their article and then wondering why such an important fact as dyslexia isn't even mentioned in the persons respective article. --The_stuart 18:21, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Unsourced list

From the edit page:

"Persons added to this list MUST have there dyslexia mentioned in their article, if not their names will be removed. Citations are not necessary for this list. If the mention of dyslexia is removed from their article then their name will be removed from this list"

I don't think this is good. A list should be like any article and needs to be sourced. Especially since it's about living people. It doesn't seem handy to look at changes in the articles to see if dyslexia is mentioned, or check if the fact that a person has dylexia has a good source. Garion96 (talk) 00:20, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

I sourced them all and removed some. Just for the following people I couldn't find a reliable source although I do think it's true.

Sourced entry

Please look at the following paragraph:

Excerpt from the book " Top 1000 Scientists from the beginning of Time to 2000 A.D. " is as below: Johnubiprasad , Ashoka (1955- ) " Indian polymath , who used a shortened form of his surname for publications ,born in Patna ,India, son of a meritorious judge in a highly distinguished family ;his great grandfather was one of the the Fathers of the Indian Constitution and later First president of the Indian Republic and his great uncle led the revolt resulting in the downfall of Mrs. Indira Gandhi 's dictatorship in the mid 1970s.He was educated at the ultra elite Kolvin School in Lucknow where he had a distinguished academic record despite dyslexia —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vr (talkcontribs) 06:34, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Seems fine to me, Ashoka Jahnavi-Prasad is included in the list, some of these details could be included in his article. --Salix alba (talk) 09:11, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Prasad's article has (repeatedly) been deleted and for the forseeable future it will stay deleted. -- Hoary (talk) 03:39, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

fictional people?

How about fictional characters? I believe Theodore "Theo" Huxtable of The Cosby Show was dyslexic.. M. Stern 21:23, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Please no. Let's keep it only concerning real people. Garion96 (talk) 22:02, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
This list is a separate article, Dyslexia in fiction. -Classicfilms (talk) 00:54, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

George Bush

I removed the entry for George Bush. I can see why you would think Bush is dyslexic, but the listed source indicated it has never been confirmed by anyone, it's just speculation. The Wikipedia article on Bush also does not mention that he is dyslexic. Therefore I removed the entry according to the Biography of Living Persons policy listed above. Gemertp (talk) 09:43, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Keanu Reeves

The source for Keanu Reeves is pretty poor, just a list of famous dyslexics which are often inaccurate. There are plenty of references but now are that reliable, some even seem to be based on the Wikipedia article. Anyone know of a better source for this?--Salix (talk): 22:55, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Alyssa Milano

Just "outed" herself on the Joy Behar show as being afflicted. Would someone care to add her name? Joe Hoskinson —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.27.128.179 (talk) 12:19, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

John Hickenlooper

Denver Mayor and Presumptive Democratic 2010 Colorado Gubernatorial Candidate John Hickenlooper stated in a radio interview that he has dyslexia. I don't know if a Gubernatorial Candidate is important enough though.--Monsuco (talk) 07:49, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Jessica Watson

She has it to. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.44.124.142 (talk) 05:32, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Historical figures

There seem to be several people on this list who died long before dyslexia was characterised. How can it be known that these people were dyslexic? Don't you need to do tests? Even if it's not a living person, we still shouldn't speculate. Maybe a new list of historical figures who were thought to have dyslexia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.6.96.22 (talk) 19:42, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

lee kuan yew

are there any reliable sources stating that lee kuan yew is dyslexic? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 218.186.17.233 (talk) 10:57, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Albert Einstein

I'm removing Einstein because the source isn't reliable and talk page consensus is that he did not actually have dyslexia [1]. Also, the source given for da Vinci and Edison says that they were reported dyslexic by error.[2] 72.152.138.243 (talk) 19:50, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

Dead people

This article is called "List of people diagnosed with dyslexia", not "List of people popular myth tells me may have been dyslexic". So stop adding Tesla, Einstein, Da Vinci, Churchill etc.37.200.27.241 (talk) 00:36, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Undocumented entries

I note that the reference given for listing distinguished old-time scholars such as Albert Einstein, Galileo Galilei, Michael Faraday and James Clerk Maxwell is a feel-good list for dyslectics, not their biographies. According to Wikipedia, Einstein did well in his first years in school. Faraday was apprenticed to a book dealer at age 14 and educated himself by reading many books, and James Clerk Maxwell won a scripture biography prize in his boarding school when he was 12 or 13. They achieved these successes ages before anyone figured out how to help dyslectic children. They could not have been dyslectic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.101.159.54 (talk) 20:24, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
