I created this list to keep List of national anthems about currently used anthems only. These 8 anthems were moved from the more simpistic List of anthems (which is now non-national), with the extra details added. Obviously this could get a lot bigger.. though not I'm not sure how big, or how it would pan out. --Matt Lewis (talk) 23:41, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Inline citation?

Unlike this list's (younger?) sister, I think might be worthwhile to have a column for inline citations on this one, as it's unlikely that any source will have all of them in one place. —WFC— 19:30, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

To be brutally honest...

This page is a bit of a mess.

Alright, I'll admit I'm not the greatest at constructive criticism. Still, I was actually just curious about a couple of things:

1. Why do none of the Romanian anthems exist? It looks like they were added some time ago, and then got speedy deleted along with a bunch of stuff that actually should have been deleted. No offense to the person who uploaded the material to begin with. Was that a mistake?
2. Regarding Austria and/or -Hungary and Germany. If they're all the same anthem, lyrics notwithstanding, I see no reason not to use Germany's anthem from the List of national anthems. It's the better version musically and all the lyrics except one are currently wrong anyway. I acknowledge there are some modern band flairs that might not have been used at that time, but that's probably not restricted to just the Deutschlandlied for this page.
3. If the closed captioning is a problem, then I recommend we remove the audio file for Molitva Russkikh (Russian Empire) as it has a similar issue. The lyrics for God Save the Queen come up, since it's the UK anthem played by the US Navy Band. This is of course copyrighted, but I love this version anyway. Sorry.

I guess I'm just annoyed at the huge number of Midi files here. It's not enjoyable to listen to, in my opinion; it already doesn't make sense that some nations have audio files and some don't when they by all rights should; and altogether it doesn't make for an experience that would get anyone interested in the history and story behind the anthems, or the nations thereof.

I'm going to go ahead and put the German anthem on all of the above. If that isn't desirable please leave a response and let's see if we can bump the quality of this page up a few notches.
