Can someone provide an Ukrainian source of this legend?

Having grown up in Ukraine, I don't recall ever hearing of this folk-tale or legend. I also have never heard any folk tales mentioning the Christmas tree at all.

The tradition of Christmas tree isn't even that old in Ukraine (definitely not older than 18th century). According to Ukrainian Wikipedia, Christmas trees weren't adopted until the second half of 19th century, and even then Didukh prevailed among peasants. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.142.186.166 (talk) 15:45, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
