Leber's amaurosis and Asperger's Syndrome
There may be a tenative link between Leber's amaurosis (specific gene-type unknown) and Asperger's Syndrome. Case in point: Allen and Amanda Brown (Now Lacy) of Texas. Both were born with no vision or light perception, showing genetic markers for Leber's. Allen has textboox Asperger's, including Autism, Tourette's, OCD, and ADHD with the near obsession to one aspect of life (music, in his case). Amanda exhibits signs of OCD, and social deficiencies. Both have a diagnoses of Asperger's. Allen also shows signs of a mild mental handicap, to the extent that he will never be able to live on his own. The younger brother of the two, who shares the same mother and father, has neither condition.
The family doctor that diagnosed these conditions informed thier mother that Leber's patients have a higher chance of Asperger's. I will try to flesh out this comment with some hard evidence, as soon as I can get solid references. As yet, I have not been able to find any information on the web linking the two, but it will be made available when I do.Starpoll (talk) 04:53, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
