Overview

The article currently lists alternate names for LPR in two different paragraphs in the introductory section. Should this information be together? I was also thinking that it could be useful to provide some relevant information on incidence and prevalence somewhere in this section.--Meggeo (talk) 23:17, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think if GERD is to be included in this overview section,it would be useful to highlight the connection between GERD and LPR before just jumping into symptoms of GERD in comparison to LPR. I also agree with the comment above in that it could be useful to add some information on incidence and prevalence in this section VoiceDisordersKristine (talk) 13:01, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I found the difference between GERD and LPR in this article is not very clear. It would be beneficial to clarify how these two disorders are distinct. The following article can help with this: [1] JessicaVoiceDisorders (talk) 02:51, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Background

The "Background" section is currently introduced with a discussion of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Preceding sections do not explicate the relationship between LPR and GERD and I believe the abrupt switch to discussing GERD in the first sentence of the "Background" section could introduce confusion.--Meggeo (talk) 23:17, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. As I was reading this section, I was confused about the connection between GERD and LPR and had to go to the GERD Wikipedia page to clarify the difference. I also think that it is strange that the "Background" section begins by speaking about another disease. I think it would make more sense to begin this section with a description of LPR and then tie this into its connection with GERD. Lisakuil (talk) 00:37, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Role of Pepsin in LPR

This page lacks any new information regarding the role of Pepsin in LPR. This information should be included. There are numerous references on the net regarding this suspected cause. This is a starter: -

I am going to start working on a section regarding pepsin's role. (HAnderson.3 (talk) 19:44, 30 September 2018 (UTC))[reply]

I added it into the diagnosis section where pepsin had already been touched on.

Which diet?

Are any specific types of diet or food recommended? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mascipa (talkcontribs) 14:14, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I agree here. I think information on recommended diet would improve the article.--Meggeo (talk) 23:03, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with this as well; more detail is required. Lisakuil (talk) 00:51, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I think it would be informative to have a section about lifestyle changes (e.g., diet). Information can be found in this article: [2] JessicaVoiceDisorders (talk) 02:56, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that information should be included on the type of diet modifications that impact LPR. VoiceDisordersKristine (talk) 11:35, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Diagnosis

I think the "Diagnosis" section could offer a more detailed discussion of the endoscopic procedures used in the assessment of clients with supposed structural or functional abnormalities in the laryngopharyngeal region.--Meggeo (talk) 23:17, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with this as well. The second paragraph in this section also requires a reference(s). Additionally, while the "Diagnosis" section describes the use of a specialized camera lens, I think that there should be more information on exactly what type of medical equipment is being used to assess LPR. Lisakuil (talk) 00:43, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think it might also be a good idea to provide more information on PH monitoring. It seems to be a recurring theme throughout articles on LPR. I have provided a potential article in the bibliography section. VoiceDisordersKristine (talk) 23:54, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Treatment

The first sentence in this paragraph indicates that LPR is a "subgroup of the GERD spectrum," this is the first time (I believe) that LPR has been described in this way and I think it may make more sense if this was introduced in the introductory paragraph. Lisakuil (talk) 00:51, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It mentions in this section that some behavioural changes should be taken to help in the management of LPR. It may be useful to discuss what they are and how they could help (i.e. exercise, sleeping position).[3] I have provided a useful article in the potential bibliography. VoiceDisordersKristine (talk) 23:34, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have LPR and the 'treatment' for me has been to take medicine that can deal with neuropathic pain, specifically in my case I went to a pain management doctor and he put me on tricyclic antidepressants i.e. Nortriptyline and Amitriptyline. I think it is worth mentioning this in the article itself, as there is literature that advocate this approach to treating LPR or LPR-like disorders. For instance, seen here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4345407/ where they discuss the following: "In fact, several recent studies recommend gabapentin, pregabalin, or a tricyclic anti-depressant as equivalent first-line agents for treatment of neuropathic pain. Also this article: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3687571/ states "Those who do not respond to empirical therapy should receive workup for the superior laryngeal nerve or the recurrent laryngeal nerve. Lee et al. believe that, as in the case of neuropathic pain, there may be a role for neuroleptic medication in the treatment of neuromuscular disorders of the larynx". Other

Could it be helpful to include some information about the health care professionals involved in the assessment and treatment of this condition?--Meggeo (talk) 23:17, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with this. I think information related to Speech-Language Pathology and voice would help to improve this article. Lisakuil (talk) 00:51, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Impact on other health related issues

I think it may useful to discuss the large impact that LPR has in contributing to other health issues. For example, this article may want to incorporate the connection between LPR and chronic cough, sinusitis and postnasal drip. VoiceDisordersKristine (talk) 13:17, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

LPR in pediatrics

I think it might be a great idea to discuss LPR in terms of assessment, related symptoms (infants vs children) ,role in other health conditions, diagnosis and treatment in children as this has not been discussed at all throughout this article yet. The following article would be a great start: 'Laryngopharyngeal reflux in children[1]' VoiceDisordersKristine (talk) 20:04, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. The following article could be used for assessment of LPR in children: [2] JessicaVoiceDisorders (talk) 02:37, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Prevalence

It would be interesting to add the presence of LPR in both children and adults. JessicaVoiceDisorders (talk) 02:43, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
