JACL should direct to a disambiguation page that splits to Japanese American Citizens League, and the TCL/Java page.

This page is directly from the JACL homepage at http://www.jacl.org/about_history.php and is therefore obviously a one sided view of the organization.

Counterpoint from Frank Chin

This article is very one-sided. According to Frank Chin, the JACL were FBI collaborators, who assisted in the roundup of community leaders. I have read that the Japanese American Citizens league participated in and supported the internmen/relocation. They actually had a hand in the decision to take the entire family. The U.S. originally planed to take only males over 14 years of age. Why is this not in the ariticle? Was what I read false? --71.3.209.200 (talk) 13:46, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just watched a documentary on the Japanese American internement in my Asian American Studies class. Many eyewitnesses at the time called the JACL, "The Jackals" because of their support for the internment as proof of loyalty to America. They were also supportive of the drafting of Japanese Americans for WWII, despite the wrongs that had been wrought upon the people in the camps. Reads like a brochure

This entire article, in its current state, reads like it was written by JACL staffers. Perhaps it was. Regardless, it sounds overly glowing and nostalgic. As other users have already pointed out, this article is incredibly biased and either omits or misrepresents a lot of facts about the JACL's actions during WWII. That said, I'm going to do some pretty significant re-working of the overview and first two sections (to start) to add a more balanced perspective. Since 2005, a large part of the article consisted of promotional text copypasted from the organization's own website. I have just removed it, alongside other text that failed WP:PROMO, WP:PRIMACY, WP:MISSION etc.

More info on JACL vs. draft resisters

The Relocation and Internment section is missing a discussion of the JACL's condemnation of draft resisters and collaboration with the government to bring charges against them. Proposed Edits

To provide more information on the JACL, I plan to create a new section in the article discussing the Japanese American Citizens League's relationship to the model minority stereotype. However, the relationship between the JACL and the model minority stereotype was discursive. As a result, I will be directly attributing my edits to Ellen Wu, author of the book section "Success Story, Japanese American Style", who claims that the JACL played an important role in strengthening the model minority stereotype. [1] Ellen Wu is a credible reference as she currently serves as an Associate Professor at Indiana University in Bloomington in the History Department and is also affiliated with the Asian American studies program at the University. Furthermore, the book was published by the Princeton University press, which indicates that the book, as well as the book section, was peer reviewed.

I think that the addition of the JACL's role in forming the model minority stereotype is important for the page as the group's actions in this arena contributed to the overall efforts of fostering a positive image of Japanese Americans. When I create my section, I plan to provide a brief definition of the model minority stereotype, as well as a hyperlink to the model minority stereotype Wikipedia page. Then, I will highlight how the JACL was focused on crafting a narrative of Japanese American success in assimilation and furthering their economic and educational prospects. For example, the JACL played a pivotal role in producing the Issei Story Project which showcased Japanese American citizenship and socioeconomic advancement. [2] These edits highlight the active role JACL played in changing public opinion about Japanese Americans in order to push forward the rights and citizenship of the ethnic group.

All together my changes should be around 100-150 words.
