Corticosteroids
The article's stance on steroid usage namely that the evidence is weak for its efficacy and likely causes harm (cleft palate) to the fetus is dated. When administered after 10 weeks there is essentially no risk of cleft palate [1] as the article itself goes on to state. Cutting edge OBs with expertise on Hyperemesis will prescribe a tapered regimen of steroids for severe HG after 10-12 weeks, especially in cases when Zofran and other more conventional treatments prove insufficient. We are concerned women suffering from HG (at risk of losing their pregnancy and even their own death) reading this article may be discouraged from pursuing this highly effective treatment.
