Michael Moore and The Awful Truth

Season 1, Episode 1 of The Awful Truth deals specifically with Humana's approach to granting a pancreas transplant to a diabetic who desperately needed one in order to survive. Michael Moore was unable to meet with any of Humana's executives or doctors, but he sparred with a public relations person over the HMO's rejection of this patient's claim. At the conclusion of the piece, Moore states that Humana agreed to reverse their decision and grant the transplant. "Hummers"

I removed the refernece to Humana associates being referred to as "hummers". I have been with the company for some time and could not verify this, even after asking around. Perhaps the term was used earlier in the company's history, but it appears to have fallen into disuse. --C7v6b5 03:40, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Needs cleanup

Controversy material removed without cause

Claiming that the material, at least half of which is not about Sicko, is "pr" for the movie, is baseless. The apparent real reason the material was removed was because the anonymous editor doesn't like these notable facts being presented. Linda Peeno testified before Congress in 1996, 11 years before Sicko came out. The testimony was notable for the past 11 years! Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 02:00, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Move

No, let's leave it here. For clarity and consistency, since it's always referred to as "Humana" in normal conversation/reporting rather than "Humana Inc." (no comma, per your link). See Microsoft, Wal-Mart, Sony, Nokia, and almost any other company article you can find for more examples. Do you have a link to the Wikipedia policy to the contrary that you're referencing? --Peter (talk) 18:49, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

69.225.179.162 is vandalizing the page (more than once) by changing "health insurance" to "death panels." I guess this is supposed to be funny. Is there any available Wikipedia feature to block vandals at the IP address level? (I'm new to this.) Blumantis (talk) 20:29, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Update Board chairmanship

David Jones, Jr. stepped down as Chairman in '10 and CEO Mike McCallister became chairman. This can be substantiated by Humana press releases. (Jones remains a Board member.)

I've updating some of the info. The info in the infobox hadn't been updated, but the sources used there were current so I just kept them. I'll continue to work on it. The lead is written too promotionally, in my opinion, so I've made some of the updates you suggested, but I'm taking the opportunity to rewrite it. I've rewritten the lead, and much of the article, as well. After looking over the Acquisitions section, it totally lacked any WP:SECONDARY sources, and seemed like undue weight. If there are reliable, secondary sources discussing these acquisitions, the section could be put back, although ideally in prose form. Remember that Wikipedia isn't a platform for promotion. Thanks. Dear Grayfell, Thanks for making the changes to the Humana Wikipedia page and the additional resources you sent to me. Upon recent review, we noticed an inaccuracy, which states that Humana “has business interests in Europe and Asia” (first sentence, first paragraph). Humana does not have business interests in Europe and Asia (see our D&B profile here: http://www.hoovers.com/company-information/cs/company-profile.Humana_Inc.cb09a45cc2e2bd65.html), therefore we were hoping it could be removed to avoid confusion. It sounds like your complaint is with AARP, rather than with Wikipedia. If this relationship has been commented on by reliable, secondary sources, it could be mentioned in the article, but Wikipedia is not a platform for original research.
