Michael Moore and The Awful Truth

Season 1, Episode 1 of The Awful Truth deals specifically with Humana's approach to granting a pancreas transplant to a diabetic who desperately needed one in order to survive. Michael Moore was unable to meet with any of Humana's executives or doctors, but he sparred with a public relations person over the HMO's rejection of this patient's claim. At the conclusion of the piece, Moore states that Humana agreed to reverse their decision and grant the transplant. While this piece may not paint Humana in an especially good light, I feel that it is important and should be added to the content of this article. 68.44.224.112 21:54, 26 April 2007 (UTC)BadMojoDE[reply]

"Hummers"

I removed the refernece to Humana associates being referred to as "hummers". I have been with the company for some time and could not verify this, even after asking around. Perhaps the term was used earlier in the company's history, but it appears to have fallen into disuse. --C7v6b5 03:40, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Needs cleanup

The history section needs to be cleaned up by writing it in a flowing prose style, rather than a year-by-year chronology. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 17:07, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like the cleanup is complete, but removing this talk is a no-no. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 18:38, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy material removed without cause

Claiming that the material, at least half of which is not about Sicko, is "pr" for the movie, is baseless. The apparent real reason the material was removed was because the anonymous editor doesn't like these notable facts being presented. Linda Peeno testified before Congress in 1996, 11 years before Sicko came out. The testimony was notable for the past 11 years! Stevie is the man! TalkWork 02:00, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Move

The artice should be moved to Humana, Inc., the official legal name of the corporation[1], in keeping with wikipedia standards for article titles based on a proper noun. Stephen Charles Thompson (talk) 10:14, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good to me. Just do an ordinary move that keeps a redirect for Humana in place. Thanks. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 14:02, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, let's leave it here. For clarity and consistency, since it's always referred to as "Humana" in normal conversation/reporting rather than "Humana Inc." (no comma, per your link). See Microsoft, Wal-Mart, Sony, Nokia, and almost any other company article you can find for more examples. Do you have a link to the Wikipedia policy to the contrary that you're referencing? --Peter (talk) 18:49, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sourcing

I added multiple citation tags to claims that need to be sourced per WP:RS and not just press releases or company website pages. Flowanda | Talk 11:11, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

69.225.179.162 is vandalizing the page (more than once) by changing "health insurance" to "death panels." I guess this is supposed to be funny. Is there any available Wikipedia feature to block vandals at the IP address level? (I'm new to this.) Blumantis (talk) 20:29, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Humana

Oh that's the criminal business which is sending spam to e-mail accounts, isn't it? They sent spam to Wikia groups - who is going to stop these criminals? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.193.50.3 (talk) 17:14, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Update Board chairmanship

David Jones, Jr. stepped down as Chairman in '10 and CEO Mike McCallister became chairman. This can be substantiated by Humana press releases. (Jones remains a Board member.)

You might also mention the Humana sponsorship of Actors Theatre of Louisville, Humana Festival of New American Plays. This can be substantiated by the Actors Theatre web site. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.203.146.98 (talk) 17:47, 16 March 2011 (UTC) Agree, Mike McCallister is now Chairman and CEO, though Bruce Broussard has recently taken on the role of President of Humana, Inc. Humana's website (link to corporate leadership) will validate. Tonyhammond (talk) 06:25, 3 August 2012 (UTC) McCallister became Chairman and CEO in August 2010. At same time, David Jones Jr. stepped down as Chairman. Tonyhammond (talk) 06:46, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Updated Info Box

I went ahead and added that Broussard is also the president as well as the CEO -- hope that's okay with everyone. Adamh4 (talk) 20:33, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Updates

Hello, my name is Alex and I work in Humana’s Corporate Communications department. Since the last time our Wikipedia page was updated, we’ve had some updates that I’d like to suggest are made to our company’s information. We’d like to make these changes ourselves, but would also be happy to have someone make them for us. Thank you very much. Kepnesa (talk) 01:13, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

ADDITIONAL ACQUISITIONS

Kepnesa (talk) 01:13, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've updating some of the info. The info in the infobox hadn't been updated, but the sources used there were current so I just kept them. I'll continue to work on it. The lead is written too promotionally, in my opinion, so I've made some of the updates you suggested, but I'm taking the opportunity to rewrite it. Thanks again for for discussing here on the talk page. Grayfell (talk) 03:42, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've rewritten the lead, and much of the article, as well. After looking over the Acquisitions section, it totally lacked any WP:SECONDARY sources, and seemed like undue weight. If there are reliable, secondary sources discussing these acquisitions, the section could be put back, although ideally in prose form. Remember that Wikipedia isn't a platform for promotion. Thanks. Grayfell (talk) 04:55, 28 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Grayfell, Thanks for making the changes to the Humana Wikipedia page and the additional resources you sent to me. Upon recent review, we noticed an inaccuracy, which states that Humana “has business interests in Europe and Asia” (first sentence, first paragraph). Humana does not have business interests in Europe and Asia (see our D&B profile here: http://www.hoovers.com/company-information/cs/company-profile.Humana_Inc.cb09a45cc2e2bd65.html), therefore we were hoping it could be removed to avoid confusion. Please let us know if this change is possible to include. Thank you. Sincerely Kepnesa (talk) 15:23, 11 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Leads are intended to summarize the body, and the bit about overseas interests wasn't mentioned in the body, or sourced in the lead, so I've removed it. I also rearranged the lead to mirror the body. Grayfell (talk) 07:11, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Suspect content in opening paragraph

AARP has negotiated an exclusive financial relationship with UnitedHealth Group for the marketing of Medicare Advantage plans. See below.

http://www.unitedhealthgroup.com/Newsroom/Articles/Feed/UnitedHealth%20Group/2013/1015BroadenAARP.aspx

As such, it's both misleading and unethical to have AARP representatives criticize Humana marketing to current and prospective Medicare Advantage customers without full disclosure of the relationship between AARP and a major Humana competitor. The positioning of this in the opening paragraph describing Humana is particularly unseemly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blumantis (talkcontribs) 15:09, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It sounds like your complaint is with AARP, rather than with Wikipedia. If this relationship has been commented on by reliable, secondary sources, it could be mentioned in the article, but Wikipedia is not a platform for original research. With that in mind, what changes to this article are you proposing? Grayfell (talk) 20:41, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the rating from 'B' back down to 'Start' due to the overall lack of references and still too much of a degree of brochure-ish writing. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 01:36, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
