Naming

I guess maybe we should just call this page heat illness and discuss heat stroke, heat syncope, heat exhaustion, heat edema. Will move it there.

Does this page really cover anything of significance besides heat stroke? And if it does cover all four, why is heat syncope still on it's own page? It should be merged.

It is a work in progress feel free to make improvements.Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 16:18, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It looks to me as though most of the current content in this article should be in an article called heat stroke, and that there should be a heat illness article that gives a brief overview of the overall subject along with a list of the various heat illnesses. Then each different type of heat illness could have its own page? I'm a newbie. Strawbaby (talk) 01:07, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree and feel free to make these changes.--Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 01:14, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Heat illnessHeat Stroke — The current Heat Illness article is mostly about heat stroke. I want to call it Heat Stroke, and put in a new Heat Illness page that is an overview of the subject. Strawbaby (talk) 23:52, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose, per my reasoning below. AJCham 14:36, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. I note the comments of AJCham below but this article is about heat stroke. When, and if, it is expanded to cover other heat related illnesses, a move to heat illness would be in order. Meanwhile, heat stroke is a commonly known term while heat illnesses is not and it doesn't make sense to me to stick with the uncommon term that is not yet covered by the article. --RegentsPark (talk) 23:18, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose This page does in fact cover a number of heat illnesses. Thus we should use the broader term here. Once the section on heat stroke is large enough it can be split of with a summary left here. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 05:35, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

Any additional comments:
Why rename it? Heat illness is still the broad term for this category of conditions. Summary the content of Heat stroke and leave a paragraph here and split if off as a subpage. No page moves required. The classification section is for heat illness not heat stroke so a straight move is not appropriate. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 02:19, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There is no content of heat stroke to summarise – that page redirects here. The rationale is that this article is almost entirely about heat stroke, rather than the broad category of conditions, so it should be moved to that title and the broader discussion copied back to a new article here. I disagree however; this article is still relatively short. It should be expanded with details of the other conditions and as it gets longer we can see if it requires splitting. In the meantime I think it is appropriate that heat stroke be covered here. AJCham 14:36, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree it seems that this pages needs to be expanded not moved.--Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 18:07, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is a article under the title "Hyperthermia" and it describes essentially the same thing. These articles should be combined, probably with redirect. Oct. 10 2010 (ACI) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.235.38.56 (talk) 21:01, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Heat Illness / Stroke

I would think that if the title of the article is now "Heat illness", the first bolded words in the article as well as the first sentence should match. Wouldn't it be better to give an overview the term "Heat illness" instead of describing one specific aspect of it?--Joel amos (talk) 17:18, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Poor organization of overall topic

We now have a situation where Wikipedia has no article that is officially specifically about heat stroke, but it does have an article just about heat syncope. This article's only nods to being about "heat illness" in general are its title and a list of other types of heat illness.

Probably the most sensible thing is to have a heatstroke article that has most of the content of this one, and a brief article that summarizes the general topic of heat illness.

Alternatively, all the other heat illness articles could be merged into this one. But that would probably be undone if attempted. Mark Foskey (talk) 03:45, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

They are sort of a continue of disease. Thus they could be well written about as a group.Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 04:47, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Moved content to here from heat wave

Hi, I've just moved a big text block to here from heat wave. However, I am not sure if people agree with this. For starters, there are hardly any references. Maybe the original editor copied it from the internet? I couldn't find a copyright vio with this tool though. Alternatively, each of the paragraphs could be copied to the leads of the individual diseases. I can't judge how good this material is. It reads fairly well but like I said, it has no refs so this could be problematic. - What do you all think? EMsmile (talk) 15:31, 15 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

More content on heat-related morbidity and mortality

I think we need to add more content on on heat-related morbidity and mortality to this article. I've asked about it at the talk page of WikiProject Medicine: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Medicine#Heat-related_morbidity_and_mortality. Some suggestions were made there about reliable sources that could be used for this kind of content. I won't have time to start on this for the next few weeks but I am putting it here in case someone has time/energy to make a start. Would be a nice job for a student assignment, too.
