Name

It would be nice if someone could put up an ogg file with the pronounciation of his name.

I'm not familiar with "ogg files", but I can tell you that the pronounciation of the initial Ør syllable is like the end part of the English word fur – without the initial f. <br. >Rgds / Mkch (talk) 22:20, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If one is not able to do the "Ø", what is an alternative spelling in so-called western spelling? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.246.190.101 (talk) 06:13, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Danish alphabet character "Ø" is pronounced as "OE" in the same way as a German alphabet character "0118.210.20.245 (talk) 01:11, 2 April 2014 (UTC)" in the word "Österreich" is pronounced "Oesterreich". I think that the English edition of Wikipedia (if it is correctly derived from Latinized originally Greek word "encyclopædia/encyclopaedia" Wikipedia should be "Wikipædia/Wikipaedia" - for comparison see the site of "Encyclopædia Brittanica") should be not using foreign (confusing - as you can read in the note above) language alphabet characters. For example the German alphabet character "ß" in the word "straße" (English: "street") is not used in English transcriptions. Instead it is written as a "strasse" even if it is the last name of a person. So let's build here in discussion the consensus to change (not only in this article, but in all English Wikipedia articles with similar problems) "Ørsted" to proper "Oersted". We should do it as Russian, Bulgarian or Bosnian editions have it: Hans Christian Oersted (Danish: Ørsted)... --ThinKinGdave (talk) 08:07, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

English Wikipedia tends to spell names with all accents, etc. in place; but there's usually a forst of redirects from nonaccented variants and nonaccented transliterations. In this case "Oersted" is common enough in English language usage it should be noted in the article - David Gerard (talk) 15:09, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also, it would be great if a phonetician can add IPA for his name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Baka toroi (talkcontribs) 15:50, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Date of Ørsted's discovery in electromagnetism

I've changed the date given for Ørsted's discovery in electromagnetism. The source cited lists it as 21 July 1820 on the precise page cited.

Piperine

I am planning on adding a part about him discorvering piperine, the spicy chemical in pepper, but if someone can do it better or faster please do so. Or if you have any problem with me adding it. Dreyer66 (talk) 21:04, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
