capitalizating "Rev" in the name

Here, "Rev" seems to be a reference to a protein, and I am told that proteins are usually uppercased by convention. In sources I can read:

  • "The kinetics of interaction between the human immunodeficiency virus-1 Rev protein and its RNA target, Rev response element (RRE)"[1] and
  • "HIV-1 Rev protein directs nuclear export of pre-mRNAs and mRNAs containing its binding site, the Rev response element (RRE)"[2], so I assume that the "Rev" is the title must be a protein.

And yes, those sources do differentiate between Rev (protein) and rev (gene), for example. "The Rev protein is absolutely essential for HIV replication (for a review see reference 49). Proviral clones lacking a functional rev gene have (...)"[3]

And I was able to check 20 of the references, and 19 of them capitalized the "Rev" in RRE. --Enric Naval (talk) 14:05, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
