Previously known as the LAH (Light attack helicopter), and not to be confused with the Lancer LAH (Light attack Helicopter), which is a derivative of the Cheetah helicopter, HAL's recently rechristened Light Combat Helicopter (LCH ) is a dedicated combat and gunship variant of the existing Advanced Light Helicopter(Dhruv/ALH), being developed to a draft IAF and IA requirement. The LCH belongs to the 5.5 ton class, with a narrow fuselage accommodating a pilot and a gunner/co-pilot in tandem configuartion. The LCH will feature a full glass cockpit for both the pilot and gunner,as well as eye level displays.
The Light Combat Helicopter is powered by engines made by Turbomeca of France, and fitted with anti-tank missiles, air-to-air missiles and electronic warfare equipment, will perform anti-tank and counter insurgency roles, as well as scout duites, escort to heliborne operations and support for combat SAR operations. Armament includes a chin mounted twin barrel 20 mm cannon, rockets, air to surface and air to air missiles.
The LCH will have a cute glass cockpit with multifunction displays, a target acquisition and designation system with FLIR, Laser rangefinder and laser designator. Weapons will be aimed with a helmet mounted sight and there will be an electronic warfare suite with radar warning receiver, laser warning receiver and a missile approach warning system.
Aero India 2003 revealed a full scale mock up of India's new Light Combat Helicopter from HAL. At that time it was expected to be operational within four years. The IAF offered Rs. 300 crores to fund in part the LCH project, and according to HAL Chairman N.R. Mohanty, the helicopter will make its maiden flight in 2005. The LCH proposal was at an advanced stage, and would need 25 months to fly from date of project launch and another two years for weaponisation.
The Light Combat Helicopter proposal sponsored by the IAF may face rough weather in its weapon fit, if the Army is not taken on board, now that it has issued its new Doctrine and attack helicopters form a major feature. Rumors of Israeli participation in the project have proven to be unsubstantiated.

First Flight of LCH-HAL, INDIA
LCH (Light Combat Helicopter) Designed and Developed by HAL (India) took its first Flight in 29th March 2010.

- They have been deleted several times already as non-free images. If I recall correctly, the images are copyrighted by HAL. I'sse see about having the page semi-protected so we can stop the IPs from readding the images every few hours. - BilCat (talk) 12:05, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Ordered by Sri lanka???
According to this website Sri lanka has given an order for 20 Helicopters.Although it could be just a rumor but india is a main exporter of weapons to Sri lanka and its closest neighbor

Lightest? Probably not
This aircraft is almost a medium weight helicopter. The articles say its max takeoff weight is 5800 kg with a 700 kg payload. Whereas Agusta A129 Mangusta, Bell AH 1 SuperCobra, Harbin Z 19 has max takeoff weights at 4200-4500+ kg. This is almost a decent light-medium weight helicopter, but not the lightest. History
I read this article and at the 2nd and 3rd para of main page seems that they give the information about the history but I get stuck after reading the 1st para of origin. I think 2nd & 3rd give more information about history.I ame Shears (talk) 14:38, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
Display picture and specs
My submission was reverted by Nigel Ish which contained an updated DP of latest HAL LCH version, a flying video and a engine spec which will be used in future. His justification was that DP and video was unlicensed and spec was allowed for only one version. I can understand the first reason but call the later one rubbish. There are many aircrafts which have 2 engine specs including FC-31. Chinese J-20 article, lists WS-10 as current spec even though it is highly unlikely that they've moved away from Saturn AL-31 all of a sudden. AL-31 was also used in the the spec along with ws-10 in that article a few days back.
And if I Nigel was correct that an article should not contain specs for multiple versions then DP should also be from the said version. To do that, only reversion is not enough. Find open source pics of the latest version and use it. That's the right way. My pic even though did not have any license, I still credited the author. The author also did not mention that his/her work comes under copyright. The pics were already available on Reddit and had not been taken down. Further, DP of first flight is not actual representation since the aircraft changes significantly between early prototypes and FOC version. Help the article and update it using latest copyright proof DP rather than blatantly reverting it. ShresthaShome.Ullas (talk) 15:25, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
- A set of specifications can only be for one version, because changing the engine for example, will change a whole lot of other specs - i.e. weights, performance, so the reader will not know what specs tie into what version. If the original specs are only for one engine, then just adding another engine will be misrepresenting sources as we do not have any sources that say what weights and performance will be with the new engine. In addition, the source you gave doesn't say that the HTSE-1200 will be used to power the LCH, just that it can be used to power similar helicopters.Nigel Ish (talk) 17:25, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
- The only reason HAL HTSE-1200 was made is to replace foreign heli engines. The references can be seen in the engine's article itself.
