confusion??

As far as I know, Glycerol-3-P is NOT a chemical intermediate in the glycolysis metabolic pathway, at least not significant enough to be stated in the first sentence of the main article. Glyceraldehyde-3-P is, though. -- xy (talk) 04:44, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name

I am confused what is the difference between gylcerol 3-phosphate and glycerol 1-phosphate. As the IUPAC name indicates the phosphate group gives the carbon it is attached to priority so it seems like the name should be glycerol 1-phosphate, and glycerol is symetrical so what is the distinction? Also, I notice there is no page for glycerol 2-phosphate, or beta glycerol phosphate. I was thinking it might make sense to include both in one page called "glycerol phosphate" if the two chemicals are not highly different, or even any other versions with multiple phosphate groups if relevant. Molecular Weight, correct?

I just tried to calculate the Molecular Weight and I get 162,0685 instead of 172,073 g/mol, as stated in the Article. I found no mistakes in my calculation: m(C3H9O6P) = 3* m(c) + 9* m(H) + 6* m(O) + m(P) = 3*12,011 + 9* 1,0075 + 6* 15,999 + 20,974 = 162,0685
