There is an awful reference in the Up with People article claiming that she was a former member. Is this awful awful claim true? If not, this slander should be removed.

Reference to Late Night with Conan O'Brien

I have deleted the silly item about eating dog biscuits in accordance with: "Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid; it is not our job to be sensationalist, or to be the primary vehicle for the spread of titillating claims about people's lives. Biographies of living persons (BLP)s must be written conservatively, with regard for the subject's privacy." ([2])

Should this item re-appear, I will post a notice on the BLP Noticeboard and let the item be discussed there. ([3]) Thank you. JeanColumbia 16:46, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Glen Close's father as personal physician to President Mobutu Sese Seko

I've edited the section on Glen Close's background to include the fact her father, Dr. William Close, attended to President Mobutu Sese Seko in the capacity of a personal physician. I lack the technical capability, however, to include the reference substantiating this fact. It is my hope that if I include the reference in this discussion, an individual with technical savvy may append it. The reference is: GARRETT, LAURIE 1994 The Coming Plague: Newly Emerging Diseases in a World Out of Balance (Toronto: Penguin Group)- specifically chapter five. Thank you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.39.33.74 (talk) 04:28, 13 March 2007 (UTC).

Taliaferro is a Virginia surname. The 17th-century immigrant from England was named Robert. I suppose he was about 3/4 English, but his grandfather, Bartolomeo Taliaferro, came from the Venetian Republic (before there was really an "Italy"). The Taliaferros intermarried with many early Tidewater Virginia families, most of whom still know how to pronounce Glenn Close's father's middle name: "toliver" or in the South "tolivah." FYI 97.81.86.187 22:21, 12 September 2007 (UTC)H. L. Erwin <hlerwin99@yahoo.com>

I don't know why my text onthe origin of the surname Taliaferro showed up in the section about Dr. Close, Glenn Close's father -- but that's where it is. 97.81.86.187 22:25, 12 September 2007 (UTC)H. L. Erwin <hlerwin99@yahoo.com>

Sunset Boulevard

I have twice reverted the unsourced entry that Close will appear in the film re-make of Sunset Boulevard. Rather than get into an edit war (WP:EW), or into a 3RR (WP:3RR) situation, I shall just state here that there is no verifiable, reliable source (WP:VERIFY) that I can find (using the usual google/lexis-nexis searches) that there is a production of a new film of Sunset Boulevard actually planned/in production. The IMDB simply shows "2010. Announced. Development status unknown", with no actors listed. Nor is there, following from that, any source showing the Close has been signed to be in the non-existent film. I don't think the IMDB lsiting is sufficient.

See the section on "Future film adaption" in the article on Sunset Boulevard (musical) for further details. JeanColumbia (talk) 16:34, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

The image Image:One hundred and one dalmatians ver2.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. Just 'Rosemary Hall'

Glenn Close did not attend "Choate Rosemary Hall." There was no such entity in 1965. She attended Rosemary Hall, which later merged with The Choate School and is now known as Choate Rosemary Hall. 68.9.139.88 (talk) 13:30, 4 November 2008 (UTC) HMcNulty

Religion

Why do you not mention religion on article about people ? Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, Buddhist, hindouist, Shia, Sunnit, Muslim ? I wan't to know such information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.108.167.221 (talk) 21:32, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Taliaferro?

if it's not a middle name, she's part italian... Taliaferro is an anglicization for Tagliaferro, in english is something like Iron Cutter... 85.20.112.46 12:22, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

"Taliaferro" was indeed her father's middle name. Like many Americans of Colonial English ancestry, Close's father was descended from Bartholomew Taliaferro, who was born in Venice in 1562 and immigrated to England, where he married Joane Lane (an Englishwoman) (see #7248 and #7249 on this page). His son or grandson moved to the New World in the 1600s, and their descendants in the U.S. probably number in the hundreds of thousands today. So does that make her part Italian? Yes, but in the incredibly remote sense of having an Italian ancestor in the 1500s. Still, it's interesting that some descendants of Taliaferro retained the name in various ways (i.e. the middle name). All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 09:12, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
Btw, the name Taliaferro when used as a name in English is usually pronounced, surprisingly, as "Tolliver". -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 06:55, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Technical correction of familial relationship?

The text says, "Close is also a second cousin once-removed of actress Brooke Shields (Shields's great-grandmother Mary Elsie Moore was a sister of Close's maternal grandfather, Charles Arthur Moore, Jr.)."

If the relationship is as described, Shields would be a "second cousin, once-removed, of Close; Close would be a "second cousin of Shields." The person "farther down the chain" is the person correctly referred to as being "removed." For example, your great-great-great-great-great-grandfather's sister's child is your First Cousin. You would be that child's First Cousin, six (6) times removed -- not the other way around.

I did not correct this part of the text because I have no way to know if the author of the original entry simply did not understand "how cousin relationships work"; or, while knowing the rules, they accidentally reported the relationship backwards (id est: mistated who is the great grandchild). Not knowing that, I could make a correction that moved the article farther from, instead of closer to, a description of the correct familial relationship. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sesquipedalian101 (talkcontribs) 07:40, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

The Simpsons

Ethnic Background

What is her ethnic background? Where in Europe was her family originally from? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Satanstorm (talkcontribs) 04:47, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Name

I have read that her birth-name is Glenda Veronica Close. Is this true? If so, should it be added in the article?

Small detail

I changed the description of her as a "lifelong" fan of the New York Mets to "longtime" fan, since there were no Mets for the first fifteen years of her life. - Oudeis2002 16:15, 23 October 2007‎

Therese Raquin

Are the rumours confirmed? I would like to know if Glenn Close will finally act in the upcoming film "Therese Raquin". Greg93 24 August 2008 (UTC)

DNA Sequencing - 'First woman'?

"Glenn Close is the first woman to announce to the public that she has had her DNA sequenced." Is this right? The first woman? Or the first notable actress? It's hard for me to believe that she'd be the first woman out there to announce her DNA being sequenced. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.82.90.18 (talk) 13:44, 24 April 2010‎

@Some Dude From North Carolina: Hi there, yes my bad. I got caught up with the other article that I forgot to work on this one. Hopefully I'll be able to make enough progress during the timeframe. Thanks for the extension. Film Enthusiast (talk) 18:24, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
