Sorting the sequence of the stratigraphy

The hierarchy is: Supergroup > Group > Formation

List them in age order > oldest to youngest

Sources

I did some searching for any free sources that could accompany the article. I started proofreading s:en:Index:South African Geology - Schwarz - 1912.djvu and can hopefully upload Hatch (1909 2nd edition) to Wikisource this week. The books are a little older and therefore contain some outdated views on processes, but the descriptive parts should be a valuable source for the article. --Tobias1984 (talk) 12:03, 8 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Order by age

Probably best to order this by age, starting with the Archaean (Kaapvaal Craton) and moving on, adding the stratigraphy for each time period, while covering the tectonics. As to main sources for the article, for the Transvaal, you should have access to Moore et al. 2001, for the Karoo, there's Catuneanu et al 2005, for the Cape Supergroup, Shone and Booth 2005 - I can send you a pdf of the full paper if you're interested. I'll provide some more input to the draft, assuming that I get a bit more time over the next few weeks. You have a gap covering almost the entire Proterozoic through to the Ordovician (the start of the Cape Supergroup) - this paper by Hanson (2003) looks like a good start (again I can send you a pdf if you want).
