Finding modern site on a map
The easiest way to correspond the old layout depicted in Mainz_um_1844_lehnhardt.jpg to the modern site via google maps seems to be to search for "Altstadt, Mainz, Germany". The fortress backs the river, and there is a bridge (the 40) in the same location as the bridge shown in the old layout. The fortress extends from the river to the southwest. The modern street Munsterstrasse has a distinctive hooked end which corresponds to the road near the upper right corner of the old layout with the same hooked end (the end near the courtyard). The edges of the fortress are indistinct in places in Google Maps because of newer development around it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TTK Ciar (talk • contribs) 02:43, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
