"scrotal tongue" is synonymous with "fissured tongue" (lingua plicata). The tongue is said to resemble a scrotum in this condition. Personally, I would say that the term fissured tongue is in greatest use, the others less so.tepi (talk) 20:11, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

Content doesn't make sense

The content in this article doesn't make sense to me.

First:

"Although these grooves may look unsettling, the condition is not painless and individuals experience discomfort."

The first part of the sentence sets up the idea that appearances are deceiving, but the second part of the sentence indicates that this condition is painful and causes discomfort.

However, later on in the article, it is stated that the condition is benign. I don't think most people would consider a painful, uncomfortable condition benign.

Perhaps, the quoted sentence is meant to say that the condition is not painful or uncomfortable?

I personally have these fissures AND my tongue is in pain, but I can't find any information online yet to see if that is normal. But my pain could be caused by something other than the fissures, so I really don't know what the truth is.

There is a contradiction here. To clarify, a fissured tongue can be associated with a burning sensation, however, the condiiton is not serious. Most importantly, it is not cancer, and will not develop into cancer. This is what is meant by benign. tepi (talk) 12:59, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
