Validity of page

As with the Ethnic groups in Europe page, we should raise some serious questions about the validity of the whole idea of classifying "Asians" as a group. I highly doubt that anyone with sense would seriously say that the Arabs, Israelis, and Georgians are more like the East Asians like they are like the European extreme, the English or Irish. The Middle East and South Caucasus have always been historically much more intimately tied to what we consider "Europe" than East Asia.

The reality is that Eurasia is one geographical continent. You can divide it up as you like, but its really more of a spectrum. The concept of Asia was invented by racist Europeans, and I think it is important that wwe emphasize in the article that "Asia", just like "Europe" is a percieved region, not a credible one. Probably the best way to deal with Eurasia would be to divide it into 4-5 subcontinents, and even that has problems. We may have to consider seriously reconstructing this page or otherwise doing away with it.

And, may I also bring up that the thing has NO references, even further indicating that the whole thing is based on percieved, rather than factual data. --Yalens (talk) 14:04, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think you misunderstand. The "idea of classifying 'Asians' as a group" does indeed exist, whatever its validity, but it is discussed at Asian people, not here. The article title could have given yuo a hint to that I suppose. As to this article, it is basically a master index to ethnographic article on Asian populations. As you can clearly see, it is already structured into subregions, and of course it would be nice to have decent coverage for each subregion individually, but before we get that, somebody will have to sit down and invest work in it. Your claim that "The concept of Asia was invented by racist Europeans" is paranoid nonsense, and sort of discourages me from expecting that you are going to be the editor improving our ethnography articles. --dab (𒁳) 14:22, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Recent POV push by 175.103.25.138

@175.103.25.138, The section Non-indigenous minorities was termed keeping parity with Ethnic groups in Europe#Non-indigenous minorities. But the IP keeps on changing it to "Other minorities" despite the fact that most of the "minorites" in the section are non-native citizen from Europe, Russia, North and South America that migrated recently from these regions to Asia, even troops. See the sources for Pakistan, Israel, Afghanistan (US troops), North Korea, Nepal, Kuwait (troops). I do not know how they are "native minorities", instead of being "Non-indigenous minorities". Also there is no mention of race in the sources. This is an unnecessary POV push especially when Ethnic groups in Europe#Non-indigenous minorities considers Jews and Romas as "Non-indigenous minorities" despite being in Europe for hundreds of years. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:18, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
