name origin

the article says "named after the Taíno Indian spirit Yuquiyú, and meaning "Forest of Clouds". Is there a citation for that? Or does it simply come from the spanish word "yunque" (anvil)? --Qyd 02:02, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is Toro Negro a National Forest also???

I always thought El Yunque was the only "National" Forest in Puerto Rico. By national I mean one that is administered by the US Dept of Agriculture's Forest Service rather than Puerto Rico's Dept of Natural and Environmental Resources. However, it seems wikipedia lists Toro Negro State Forest as a "national forest" also. This error can be seen in El Yunque's article, at the end/bottom of the article, next to "National Forests" under "Protected Areas of Puerto Rico".

At least, I thought Toro Negro State Forest *was not* a National Forest and that, in effect, Toro Negro was named "State Forest" BECAUSE it was administered (like other commonwealth forests such as Guanica's and Maricao's) by Puerto Rico's DNRA.

If I am right (and I have since done some research and confirmed that I very possibly am), "Toro Negro State Forest" should be removed from the list of National Forests, under Protected Areas of Puerto Rico.

Merger proposal

there is a mountain called Yu Nque there is a rain forest called El Yunque

"only tropical rain forest in the United States"

Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the U.S. but is not part of it. (No one would say Gibraltar is a mountain in the United Kingdom) We need to find a better wording for this. Perhaps... "Only tropical rain forest in a United States territory or state". 'or state' is a little awkward but necessary to point out that there are no tropical rain forests in any state either. --Golbez (talk) 23:03, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
