How can India and South Korea both be the fourth largest economy in the world? The article says that and leads to confusion. Somebody should clear that up.

GDP

For GDP numbers, these countries are in the IMF database, [1], [2], they add up to $18.077 and $8.782 trillion for 2003. What was the average population during 2003? I'll use the 4,000,750,000 number for now (for the GDP/capita number). - Jerryseinfeld 00:04, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)

IMHO, think it is rather incorrect to phrase it this way. There were a few well-known ports such as Malacca, Penang and Singapore at different time frames. I am sorry that I do not have the details with me. oK

Some of the GDP numbers reported here are way off (October 9, 2019). India's nominal GDP is claimed to be $11 trillion, when it's in fact around $3 trillion. Same goes for its GDP PPP which is not $20 trillion but closer to 11.5. Same goes for Japan: Nominal GDP of $10.5 trillion and a GDP (PPP) of $5.7 trillion. These two numbers together obviously make no sense. Whoever faked these numbers did an incredibly poor job. PPP figure is correct bt nominal should be around $5.1 tr. I didn't check the other ones manually but someone should. I'd like to let you know i'll be trying to give a hand at expanding this article over the coming weeks. I've begun to develop the economic sectors section, adding a few images and i've updated all the currencies. Im fresh off developing and gaining featured status for Celtic Tiger, and Economy of the Republic of Ireland. My team would like to edit this page for our class project by adding to each section and creating at least two more new sections. To start, we will add a section on Regional Policies that would contain information on major events, like leadership changes, that have significantly affected parts of Asia. Another section that we plan on adding to this page would be about of Asia in the global economy. We are looking for feedback from the wiki community for other suggestions and areas that may need improvement. Taking on this project will be a great experience and we are excited to learn from it as well as help others have a better understanding of the Economy of Asia.

New Sections

1. Regional Policies

• We want to talk about leadership changes that have significantly affected the economy of Asia, for example Shinzō Abe, prime minister of Japan, introduced the country to Abenomics which is based upon "fiscal stimulus, monetary easing and structural reforms"
• In the Philipines, this region is stuck with corruption and cronyism, or the appointment of friends and associates to positions of authority despite their qualifications, which has a big impact on their government and businesses
• We will also talk about China's Five-Year plan, which are a series of social and economic development initiatives that happen under a new leader

• When introducing the impact of China's social and economic development initiatives, we will also talk more about the impact that China's economic reforms have had.

1. Asia in the Global Economy

• We will use graphs and charts to show a more in depth view of Asia's capital markets and how they have impacted the global economy as a whole

Good work, @Alh272, @Yz567, and Madeleine. Here are couple of suggestions for you to improve the article:

a) Please make clear the work distribution among the team members.

b) If you are not talking about the recent development projects of all the countries, you may need to make that clear in an introduction paragraph at the start of this section. Also, you may want to find a better heading so that the readers do not get confused.

c) The photo of Japanese Prime Minister may not be much relevant with the context of the article.

d) "The stimulus package was 20.2 trillion yen ($210 billion) and the government also aimed to create 600,000 jobs in two years." needs citation

e) You may look for academic and political conferences and meetings that discuss the economy of Asia. You can also talk about the academic journals that are relevant to this article.

f) Make sure you sign and summarize all your contributions.

Organization and Style

• In regards to the new section that you guys created, called 'Recent Regional Developments,' it may be useful to move that information into a subsection of the 'Economics development' section. After all, recent developments would fall somewhere in between the '2008-present' and 'Future' subsections.

• For the most part, all sources were cited well. There's just the one section about the stimulus package in Japan that needs some form of citation.

Additional feedback

Thank you very much for your contributions to the article, they're a real improvement. I think there are a few more changes you could make that would make them more valuable.

1. Use a reference template for your references. Right now they are what we call 'bare URLs' - they don't include a source or an access date. Over time, web pages get renamed (as websites are reorganized) and it can sometimes be difficult to track down a reference if you only have a URL. If you have the actual name of the publication and full citation data, it's often a lot easier to update links.
2. Incorporate your section into the Economic development section, between the 2008-present section and the Future section. That seems like the logical place for it in the flow of the article.

A few additional things - there are some "citation needed" tags in the article. If you could find sources for some of the things that are tagged, you can replace the 'citation needed' with a source. Don't worry too much about it, but if you do find some, that would be an improvement to the article. There is also a big, ugly banner at the top of the page saying that the article has multiple problems. If you can add some of the missing citations that, coupled with your updated content, might be enough to warrant removing the template. (Leave the one on the Currency section, unless you want to try updating that one.) It's entirely possible that someone else might still think the banner is needed and re-insert it; if they do, don't worry about it. But I think your improvements might warrant removing the banner. Tip: A way to quickly deal with citation templates is to use WP:REFLINKS for web, and http://reftag.appspot.com/ for Google Book cites.

Review comment: Good additions, but some of the content you have added is unreferenced: [3]. Remember, citations should be added at the end of each sentence if sources used are different then in proceeding sentence, and always at the end of each paragraph. In your edits I see a lot of totally uncited paragraphs, and some with a ref in the middle. Please increase the reference level density. Continuing Edits by Yuqing Zhang, Madeleine Corneli and Alencia Harris

Achievements Our most notable contribute is helped the page to move up from a 'Start page' to a C-Class level page. Based on our previous edit, our team have improved the structure of both the Talk page and the Article page and rewrote the introduction part of the article to make it more coherent to our edits. One of the requirements for a B-Class article is "defined structure". We created a new section "Regional Variation“ similar to the same section in Economy of Europe. We moved the GDP data to this section and added or moved content that was specific to certain regions to the new section. We hope that this additional structure help better organize the content of the article. We updated the information and focused on events happened after 2008. We brought in more visual display of the information by updating currency charts and added new picture of Hong Kong Stock Exchange . Furthermore, to ensure the credibility of this page, we conducted thorough research and fact check to all previous edits including both works from our team and other Wikipedians. We reviewed all articles for grammatical accuracy. Most of the information before were uncited and we went in, and made sure each one of the paragraphs were cited. We found ourselves evolve through the process and our roles have moved from 'peripheral' towards central. Our ultimate goal is to solicit a re-assessment for this article. The requirements for a B-Class article are:

1. suitably referenced: We have added references wherever we were able to support the content we added and the content already present in the article. We also found sources for any citation needed tags.
2. no obvious omissions: We updated the out-of-date information on the page and added content for the past several years. This makes the article more relevant and reliable.
3. defined structure: As stated above, we added a new section and several new subsections to better organize the content in the article.
4. well-written: we went through the article and made several small grammatical changes to improve the quality of the article.
5. supporting materials: The currency chart has been updated and we added an image to support our new content.
6. understandable: We made sure our new content was clear and not too technical

by doing what have been described we are working on helping this article to move up to a B-class. We still have several more updates to make but we hope to apply for a re-assessment on the WikiProject Asia page to get this article bumped up to a B-Class article.Yz567 (talk) 02:16, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

Challenges Through our assessment, the main issues that preventing the article to move up are:

1. insufficient citations/references for previously written sections and the content we added
2. one specific section that was added by another user, 1991-2007, needed quite a few citations so facts were checked and matched to reliable sources Alh272 (talk) 18:01, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
3. article is outdated, especially the Currency section
4. we were trying to reach out to users who edited this page as well as related pages such as 'Economy of Europe,' and so far we didn't receive many instructions and feedbacks. But we did receive some useful inputs and took actions to fix the problems.

Changes Proposed On Nov 22 We have already added some content to the article discussing some recent reforms in Asian nations. We would like to add further content that discusses more recent economic changes in Asian countries. We would like to use the Economy of Europe page as a template for our updates. In particular, that article has a "Regional Variations" section that includes nation-specific information and GDP data (among other information). We plan to add a "Regional Variations" section and move the existing GDP data there and add a subsection consolidating the current information we have about China. We have received some helpful feedback from Wikipedia users suggesting some of the updates we plan on making. We will continue to reach out to other users and we welcome any feedback! I've assessed this article as C-class based on Wikipedia:Assessment scale. However, before it can receive any higher rating, all unreferenced content in the article needs to have inline references. Nice work update and expanding the article but, as Piotr says, there are a lot of unreferenced statements in the article. In addition, you might want to take a look at the lead and make sure that it still summarised the article's content in a balanced fashion - since you added more material, you might want to change the slant of the lead slightly. That's good. Don't forget to cite statistics from the infobox (even if it states "Most numbers are from the International Monetary Fund." we need a reference for which pages/publications of IMF are used). When adding references, please make sure they are well formatted; ex. links to news should also give author and date, books should have ISBNs and page numbers for cited contents, etc. Use Wikipedia:Citation templates if you can, it's the recommended (but not required) best practices.

Regarding the content, the "Future" section needs to discuss topics such as like the aging of Korea, Japan and China. Regional variations section is problematic, as it only discusses recent events in China and Japan. What about Korea, for example? And where do you draw the line? There is a discrepancy in the population between the main text (4.4 billion) and the box stat (4.2 billion)

In terms of PPP, Indonesia is larger than Korea, but the order was reversed.

The GDP table is for 2014, but the text above the table states it is from 2013.
