Holiday Photos

This is not a place to put them. Also, this article is in desperate need of cleanup. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Deman Risu (talkcontribs) 00:14, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I requested sources to show that the helmet was worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia, but following your comment, I've removed the text and the "holiday photos", since it reads like an advert. If a good third-party source is available, some text can always be re-introduced then. If you feel able to do some cleanup on the article, I'd be happy to help - good sources would be particularly welcome. --RexxS (talk) 23:28, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed this advert as it is unsourced promotion. If a "Recreational helmet" is significant enough to be mentioned in an encyclopedia, it should have been mentioned in some third-party source. Let's get the sources first and then write the content.

Dear RexxS,

As Chairman and C.O.O. of Sub Sea Systems, Inc., I hereby state that Sub Sea Systems is the copyright holder of the photo submitted on December 18, 2011. Karen Doody is a corporate photographer for Sub Sea Systems. All rights are owned entirely by Sub Sea Systems, Inc.

Response to Category Question - "Recreational Helmets" - Sub Sea Systems is one of many recreational helmet producers. Recreational helmet diving has become popularized over the past 10 years as a method for introducing tropical resort vacationers, aquarium guests and water park visitors to to the undersea world without any previous diving experience or certification. There are helmet diving producers found in Japan, Europe, the United States, Australia and Taiwan. Helmet diving has become popularized with cruise lines and tropical resort destinations.

Dear Jim, it's not me that you have to convince. You could be the chairman of Sub Sea Systems or the janitor, or perhaps I am. Nobody can tell for sure. So on Wikipedia we have to rely on a bit more than "because I say so". Get an official email off to WP:OTRS explaining who the copyright holder is (because it sure doesn't look like you are from the image metadata) and see if they will grant you a ticket showing that you have permission to license the image on Wikipedia. Without OTRS permission, that image is bound to be deleted.
So Sub Sea Systems is one of many recreational helmet producers. Well then, it should be simple to cite a source that says so. Everything you write on Wikipedia has to be verifiable by reference to a reliable source. Have a read of WP:Verifiability and perhaps WP:Reliable sources if you get the chance. It should make it clearer to you what is expected in the way of references to back up what you write. --RexxS (talk) 01:19, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Another possible way of proving that there are many recreational helmet producers would be to provide links to their websites so anyone can verify that for themselves. I would be interested to see that for myself, as I was entirely unaware of the existance of all those manufacturers. I think the point RexxS is making about the permission to use the photo, is would it stand up in a copyright litigation as sufficient evidence that the photo is yours to give. Recreational Helmets

There are a number of manufacturers of Recreational Helmets, the largest being Sub Sea Systems, which is the producer of the Sea Trek helmet diving system. Sea Trek helmets are designed to provide a continuous flow of air to guests who are being guided on a tourism related experience to depths from between 9 to 30 feet in depth. The weight of the helmet displaces the buoyancy of the air within the helmet and provides approximately 15 pounds of negative weight to allow the user to lightly walk on the sea floor.

Commons:File:Sea Trek Recreational Helmet.jpg The file looks like a copyvio as the uploader "Jimmayfield, president of" would appear not to be the author of the image as claimed. The copyright holder seems to be "Karen W. Doody All rights reserved" and I see no evidence of any permissions. --RexxS (talk) 16:07, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

B-Class review

B
  1. The article is suitably referenced, with inline citations. It has reliable sources, and any important or controversial material which is likely to be challenged is cited. Any format of inline citation is acceptable: the use of <ref> tags and citation templates such as {{cite web}} is optional.

  2. More citation needed. ☒N
  3. The article reasonably covers the topic, and does not contain obvious omissions or inaccuracies. It contains a large proportion of the material necessary for an A-Class article, although some sections may need expansion, and some less important topics may be missing.

  4. A bit thin on content. Needs more detailed information on all types of helmet. ☒N
  5. The article has a defined structure. Content should be organized into groups of related material, including a lead section and all the sections that can reasonably be included in an article of its kind.

  6. Has structure, looks OK but will probably need to be expanded with more content. checkY
  7. The article is reasonably well-written. The prose contains no major grammatical errors and flows sensibly, but it does not need to be "brilliant". The Manual of Style does not need to be followed rigorously.

  8. Looks OK. checkY
  9. The article contains supporting materials where appropriate. Illustrations are encouraged, though not required. Diagrams and an infobox etc. should be included where they are relevant and useful to the content.

  10. Reasonably illustrated. checkY
  11. The article presents its content in an appropriately understandable way. It is written with as broad an audience in mind as possible. Although Wikipedia is more than just a general encyclopedia, the article should not assume unnecessary technical background and technical terms should be explained or avoided where possible.

  12. Looks OK. checkY
