Question: both of my parents (that’s where they met) worked at the Columbia Aircraft factory in Somerville New Jersey. My father was a foreman (night shift) building wings for PBYs. The wings were then strapped to the top of box cars and shipped to ? for final assembly. Most of the night shift workers were GIs from Camp Kilmer trying to make extra money.
My question is, is the Somerville factory related / associated with the Columbia Aircraft mentioned in this article?
I seem to recall, the Somerville factory was owned by two bankers out of Metuchen NJ. After the war, they tried to make outboard engines for boats, but failed. The building was torn done in the 60's.
Unrelated, prior to this, my father worked for Brewster Aircraft at Newark Airport (NJ).
