Ultrasound for Pain?

"This investigation is usually conducted after an ultrasound examination of the abdominal right upper quadrant for pain." I'm not sure what this sentence is supposed to say, but "ultrasound examination for pain" doesn't make any sense. "Because of pain"? "For cause of pain"?
