Going through Distributed Proofreaders now (July 2008): THE HISTORY OF CUBA BY WILLIS FLETCHER JOHNSON VOLUME FOUR NEW YORK B. F. BUCK & COMPANY, INC. 156 FIFTH AVENV 1920 has the following on the page after 172

CARLOS J. FINLAY

Born at Camaguey on December 3, 1833, of English parents, and dying on August 20, 1915, Dr. Carlos J. Finlay left a name which greatly adorns the science of Cuba and which occupied a conspicuous place on the roster of the benefactors of humanity. He was educated in France and at the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, and rose to eminence in his profession. He first of all men propounded the theory that Stegomiya fasciata mosquito was the active and sole agent in the communication of yellow fever, and personally, under the Governorship of Leonard Wood, demonstrated the correctness of that theory and thus freed Cuba from its most dreaded pestilence and blazed the way for a like achievement in all other lands. For this epochal service to the world many foreign governments bestowed distinctions and decorations upon him. Though technically retaining the British citizenship with which his father endowed him, he devoted his life to Cuba and filled with high efficiency the place of chief of the Bureau of Sanitation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gcutter (talkcontribs) 19:52, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Juan Carlos or Carlos Juan

It has been called to my attention that the name of this scientist is not Carlos Juan, but Juan Carlos. The School of medicine in Cuba that bears his name is "Juan Carlos". Having no way to prove this myself, could somebody check and accordingly correct the corpus of this article? SanGatiche (talk) 00:38, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, this is what Google turned up, anyhow. Cuban websites overwhelmingly use "Carlos Juan Finlay" more than "Juan Carlos Finlay", 849 to 6 ([1], [2]). And even these 6 use "Carlos Juan" more often than "Juan Carlos", which they all state or imply was just his birth name.
What's the full name of the school named after him? SamEV (talk) 04:27, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He is a great personality for World. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.99.206.243 (talk) 07:00, 3 December 2013 (UTC) A: He had changed his name from Juan Carlos to Carlos Juan in his lifetime. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.12.97.113 (talk) 18:36, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Professional Career

The final paragraph of the Professional Career section appears to have been copied verbatim from the website - http://yellowfever.lib.virginia.edu/reed/finlay.html - without formatting or citation. That website contains a copyright notice. Footnote markers remain for sources that are also not cited. One sentence contains a caption for an image that is on the website above: "were never sufficiently isolated from the general population toFinlay, seated on left, with Havana public health experts eliminate the possibility".

Link article to Cuba

I believe it is justifiable to link the article to Cuba, the country, as Finlay is from there. The link I added was removed. Is there a reason why? There are references to Cubans (people) and Havana, but not the country proper. Thermofan (talk) 08:26, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is a Google Doodle really an "honour"?

It's not exactly an official medal, more of a bit of corporate marketing. 86.130.40.127 (talk) 06:09, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
