The information that has been posted concerning Dr. Blalock (and has been deleted) are indeed true. That shunt didn't just appear out of thin air ya know. Now I will agree that the shunt was not a complete fix of tetralogy of Fallot, but it DID solve the problem, which makes it the world's first open-heart surgery. Cardiology didn't even exist in its present form, until Dr. Blalock attempted the shunt, and that was EIGHT YEARS before C. Walton Lillehei attempted a complete repair of tetralogy of Fallot. Thats why C. Walton Lillehei is often referred to as "The Father of Modern Day Open-Heart Surgery" not as its father itself, cause he was NOT the first to attempt it.
