Discussion in Main Article

The following was placed in the main article:

With respect to the currently present section that reads: "In some extreme cases, the areola and nipple may need to be completely removed for relocation and replaced as a skin graft (aka "free nipple graft"). In these cases, sensation from the areola area will be lost."
This should be changed to:
Although in the past, and based entirely on some arbitrary parameters it was deemed safer to remove the nipple and replace it as a "free graft." This is much less commonly performed. It is no longer the choice approach for a variey of reasons, not the least of which is the loss of nipple sensation, and loss of the ability to nurse in a significant percentage of patients. Nipple grafting is currently reserved for special cases where nipple survival is deemed tenuous on the operating room table, and not as a planned technique.

It's clear that this was meant to be in the discussion page. -Etafly 05:02, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This entry needs significant editing in general. Sensation and nursing issues especilly. you do NOT nessisarily loose all sensation, and you can useually still nurse, although sometimes you may need to use an SNS or other device. ~tash 3 June 2007

  • I imagine it depends on the type of procedure. I agree that the article needs a lot of work, though. -Etafly 16:52, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Breast massaging and ironing

Breast massaging and Breast ironing can be mentioned as a form of breast reduction. This also implies adding adding breast massaging after surgical operation at first line. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.182.183.145 (talk) 07:53, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Breast massaging may perhaps include the use of belts, and breast bands. (otherwise, an other article must be made for them)

Deletion of factual medical information.

Hi, Fyrael:

I have reverted your deletion of required medical information, because it truncates the full information the reader requires; look up Wikipedia:The perfect article, bullet number four.

Please write to me, and discuss why you have deleted relevant medical information about a surgical procedure. Are you a physician?

What do you mean: We don't need it? Please reply and explain.

This is being discussed already at Talk:Mastopexy. I'll keep my responses confined there. -- Fyrefly (talk) 14:36, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Has this page just been copied from elsewhere?

I just came across this page, and it looks like much of it has simply been ripped from another source. The headings are in the wrong places and it doesn't make much sense.

Can someone familiar with the article please advise? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LeDrumbo (talkcontribs) 22:47, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article has been moved from Breast reduction to Breast reduction plasty, seemingly to accommodate a disambiguation page at Breast reduction. I haven't found any discussion and I do not agree with the changes. Breast reduction is the best name for this article, and the other articles, Breast reduction drugs and Breast ironing do not need to be disambiguated here.--Taylornate (talk) 12:26, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Another method

One other method of breast reduction:

    • Decreasing the food energy intake by eating less and/or less energetic foods. By decreasing your food energy intake, more adipose tissue will be created, part of which will consist of adipose tissue located near the breast area.[1]. The amount of adipose tissue that will be added to the breasts varies from person to person and is controlled by the KLF14 gene.[2]. Additional modification of the KLF14 gene can thus make sure even less of the adipose tissue increase will occur at the breasts.

Surgical Technique

I suggest adding this information to the beginning of the liposuction only technique section -- While the suctioned fat cells are permanently gone, after a few months overall body fat generally returned to the same level as before treatment.[1] This is despite maintaining the previous diet and exercise regimen. While the fat returned somewhat to the treated area, most of the increased fat occurred in the abdominal area. Visceral fat - the fat surrounding the internal organs - increased, and this condition has been linked to life-shortening diseases such as diabetes, stroke, and heart attack.[2]

Gender-neutral language

I will be changing the language in this article to a gender-neutral one. This page explains why it is important for sex-specific information to use gender-neutral language (similar edits will be made on articles of this nature).Malik.albahlani (talk) 09:17, 5 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted. This is Wikipedia and mana.org does not guide procedures here. A proposal to make such changes should be agreed at WP:VPR before attempting changes like this. Johnuniq (talk) 10:16, 5 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
