Copyvio

Problem: a deal of this comes verbatim from a California Polytechnic State University term paper on Batrachotoxin. I haven't shopped it as copyvio, as it's a first article and is probably down to inexperience. But it needs rewriting pronto. Tearlach 20:50, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I thought the antidote for the poison arrow/dart frog was honey, seen from man vs wild. Talvinlee (talk) 23:44, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pitohui

Shouldn't the Pitohui be listed as a source of the toxin? I'm not sure but I heard their diet of beetles contibute their posion.

I enjoyed your article

Pronounciation

How does one pronounce the word Batrachotoxin?? "Buh-track-oh-toxin?" "Bat-trah-cho-toxin?" "Buh-TRAH-cho-toxin?" "Buh-TRAY-ko-toxin?" .. asked by Vid2vid 17:05, 26 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I suggest "bah-TRAH-cho-toxin" or "buh-TRAH-cho-toxin". Certainly not 'K' on the 'ch'. Rule in English is isolated vowel is soft, so 'ah' rather than 'ay', in 'tra'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.15.68.19 (talk) 21:32, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Contested statements removed to talk

  • One freshly caught frog has up to 2 milligrams of toxin, or 50 times the lethal dose in humans. {{Fact|date=January 2007}}

Please do not restore this information to the article without a citation.--BirgitteSB 04:10, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Statements such as "Extrapolating from the LD50 in rats, the lethal dose of this alkaloid in humans is estimated to be XXX µg/kg" is unscientific. Toxicity cannnot be readily extraplolated (gues-trapolation would be the right term).

Is this toxin effective if ingested or must it be injected. mdbg

Redundancy

In the section Toxicity, it states that the toxin affects (sodium) ion channels 3 times. The section needs to be cleaned up so it does not repeat previous statements. The way it stands currently, it is difficult to understand. LDCorey (talk) 04:27, 7 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Structure of BTX

The stereochemistry at C20 (on the D-ring) in the structure of BTX is incorrect. The methyl should be wedged, not dashed. 171.66.13.14 (talk) 18:38, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
