'developmental-biology-stub'

I added the BBS article to the category developmental-biology-stub since a number of the disease manifestations affect fetal growth, as well as bodily functions while a child or an adult.
It should, of course, remain a part of the disease-stub group that it is already a part of. N2e 17:20, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article needs attention -- the Science is outdated

This article needs attention in the medical science, genetic science, and pathologies areas.

User Rl vastly improved this BBS WP article when the public-domain information from the National Library of Medicine (NLM) was inserted. However, I just did a quick back-of-the-envelope calculation on that material and determined that two-thirds of the NLM journal references were from the 1950s through the 1980s, with one-third from 1990-1997.

With significant advances in Bardet Beidl Syndrome science, both clinical and genetic, since 1997 none of this vast new knowledge is in the older NLM source material. And little of the new science has been added to this article.

I have tried to update the article with info about various BBS organizations, and have added a number of additional external links, but will leave the medical, genetic, pathology, and disease characteristics updates to others. N2e 18:05, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Recent science

I have added a major new section to the article today, one that gives a rather comprehensive summary of the syndrome from a recent 2008 book from Oxford University Press. That material, with citations, is now in the article.

Later today, I discovered another excellent edited book entitled "Obesity : Genomics and Postgenomics" (also published in 2008) with yet another very good article on BBS: Bardet-Biedl Syndrome : New Insights into Ciliopathies and Oligogenic Traits. Among other things, this chapter suggests that BBS is a model ciliopathy (pp 201) which is allowing further progress in understanding all ciliopathies. Could this be written in plain English?
