Patton

Much of the information in the paragraph on George Patton and the Fifteenth Army contradicted information in the Wikipedia article on the Fifteenth Army. Also, the fact that Patton departed from Bad Nauheim on the trip that ended his life has almost no relevance to the history of the city as such. Poldy Bloom (talk) 19:27, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That would be fantastic. I don't know much about the town, but I have family living there. As it was, I was trying to glean information from running the article in the German Wikipedia [1] through an online translator. Not the best way of doing things, I imagine.

Is this true?

Siting from the artikle: "In addition, during World War II Hitler had a command complex in Bad Nauheim called the "Eagle's Nest"."

Is this realy so? "Eagle's Nest" seems to be invented as a tourist name for Kehlsteinhaus in Berchtesgade after the war. This is the only reference I can find to a possible "Eagle's Nest" in Bad Neuheim. Can anyone give a reference to this statement? Actually, there seems to have been a Fuehrer HQ in the forests outside Bad Nauheim, and it was indeed called Adlerhorst. Hitler used it during the 1944 campaign in the Ardennes. Haven't found much in English, but here's the German Wikipedia: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/F%C3%BChrerhauptquartier_Adlerhorst -- In addition, the German Bundesarchiv identifies it with the castles Kransberg and Ziegenberg; these were at least a part of the Adlerhorst complex. My mother lived there in 1951 and says Bad Nauheim was totally free of the bombing and destruction that was still evident all around it. It seemed to be common knowledge at the time that FDR had ordered it spared because of his time there and his affection for the town. Now we hear that Hitler had a command HQ near Bad Nauheim. Conspiracy theorists? Was this just a coincidence? Was FDR totally unaware of Hitler's command HQ in the area? Did Hitler know about FDR's affection for the area and choose it as a safer place to set up a command HQ? HTA3 (talk) 15:48, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
