Talk:BMW 7 Series (E23)

I'm trying to learn the lineage of the BMW's, and am wondering if someone can explain why they list model number E21, etc., instead of something like '92-94 318, '94-98 325, etc. Also if it is possible to have the model numbers also in the same summary/lineage tree. Say something like the Volvo lineage tree that actually lists each year and model.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Study Puppy,

The 'E' series refers to the internal designations (code name) of the model within the BMW organisation (during & after its development). I believe there's a list of the BMW 'E-Codes' available on the web, perhaps a Google search would give you some pointers (alternatively http://www.unixnerd.demon.co.uk/ is something of a legend in the BMW internet realm & has info on the E code numbers ;-)
