It is hard to get information about this person beyond what is in the referenced articles. There are no articles on other Wikipedias that I can find. I think his intercultural tendencies are interesting. There is apparently an entry for him in Grand dictionnaire universel du XIXe siècle which is perhaps what the NIE and Americana articles derive from.
